Winter Olympics 2026-Cortina, Italy

Yeah.

Sorry for the silly question, but why are the Dolomites not snow-capped like the himalyas or other parts of the Swiss, Austrian Alps?

@Maria

I Just found this Video :smiling_face:

Edit

I have no idea why the video isn’t working; I guess you have to click the link. Annoying.

@Livvy
Mongolia have already got their winter gold medal in the fashion.

These outfits are so elegant and warm. I love the long robe and hat too.

I was wondering about her surname and how common it is in Italy… And then I found this.

It means ‘laughing at bridges’, which was a very common pastime in Italy in the early middle ages before they came up with witch burning.

Seems like Team GB should pick up a couple of medals in the skeleton despite Cas ruling against their new helmet designs.
The news is a big blow to Team GB’s Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt, who have dominated skeleton all season, winning all seven of the World Cup races between them.

Damn, what an awful way for a legend like Lindsay Vonn to go out.

There is something really icky about it. She has no fucking ACL. What happened was entirely predictable and yet we still were subjected to wall to wall coverage about he heroism of her journey with seeming no one stopping to ask WTF are we doing allowing her to go out there and do this, taking a spot away from someone else, robbing other athletes of worthy coverage. It was like the whole thing was pushed because it would be a great story, and an athlete maybe not making the right decisions for herself was enabled by an apparatus committed to telling the story the press was already committed to telling before she fucked her knee the other week

Agree that the narratives around it were too heroic sounding, although I watch through the BBC not Peacock/NBC so I missed most of that. BBC were mostly just talking about her legacy and how amazing it was that she would compete but there was definitely an undertone of concern to it.

I don’t like the idea that her choosing to compete was robbing someone else of their place, to be honest. She has had a stellar season, qualified for the team and suffered a bad injury one week ago. Despite that she was still 3rd in the training runs and was looking competitive enough to get a medal despite age and injury. From what I understand there wasn’t an alternative anyway as the next US athlete down hadn’t achieved the olympic qualifying standard.

Either way I think she was entitled to make her own decision. She’s 41, had 9 knee injuries and an independent doctor cleared her to compete. Unfortunately she just hit that gate too hard and it threw her off. It was probably the worst thing she could do to hit the gate in a way that required her to push hard in the left leg to correct as that was never going to happen. If she does a clean run she probably gets down the mountain fine since her training runs had gone well but she was pushing for gold which was probably a poor choice.

So far so good.

She has just had surgery.

Thought that Dutch speed skating lady that won gold looked familiar. Then it dawned on me.

Same, but my eyes kept rolling more and more when I discovered she’s dating the Jake Paul trash.

I only heard this story about his fear of heights today, unbelievable. I’ve been up on a ski jump like that myself, it’s really intense when you’re up there.
