The UK hasn’t had a good entry bar that one bloke for about two decades, maybe thats part of the reason.
I have a lot of fun with our hockey team atm, love these boys

Congratulations Matt Weston.
wtf happened to Malinin! Feel a bit sorry for him, completely crestfallen
@Magnus serious question but what’s the deal with Norway and Ice Hockey? Is thee any convention wisdom on why they are so much less relevant than their Nordic neighbors?
Yes, it’s not regarded as a “real” winter sport (no implied insult, just trying to explain how hockey is viewed culturally in Norway using very few words), in terms of status and it’s only popular in certain regions in eastern Norway. In most of Norway, ice hockey doesn’t exist and there are no teams or such ice halls where you can learn to play it.
I suppose you can say that we view hockey much like some football fans view golf (i.e. cool sport you have there and its nice you are having fun with your friends, but you are not really good on skates and certainly not skiis and it cannot compare). It’s just regarded as a lesser ice skating surrogate that those who are not strong skaters but have robust physique, can play around with so they dont have to lose to the Dutch all the time. Its regarded as important in a Cold War context more than as a winter sport over here ![]()
Chauvinist maybe. But much culture is when held close to a light I find.
Women’s relay today was amazing.
Sorry, a super short answer that is accurate is that there is no/little culture for it and also only installations where you can play it around a few places, unlike cross country skiing which kids grow up with everywhere.
I.e. every Norwegian kid has tried cross country skiing unless he/she has terrible parents.
Extremely few have ever tried icehockey. Far more so traditional ice skating as the culture is that when a water freezes, people skate. But ice hockey is an equippment and team sport. Very different and again, lack of ice halls.
You should’ve heard the BBC commentating. Just before the Swedish lady tumbled overhead first, they were really bigging her up. And then a ski completely broke off and even the person coming over to replace a ski tumbled and fell over. I really feel bad for her. But I was laughing my arse off when it happened.
Insanely good!!
Tortoise and the hares.
He won his QF, Semi-Final, and Final in exactly the same way ![]()
