He made a decision that I think he may even reflect was a bit of an error.

I was gutted for him when they didn’t win the title last season if I’m honest. I think a reflection everyone is human and we all make decisions and I think it’s hard to judge outside of the scope of being truely awful is hard one.

Liverpool’s players offered counselling

Liverpool’s players have been offered counselling and wellbeing support by the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) in the wake of the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva.

The PFA, which provides a range of mental health and trauma support services, confirmed that both individual and group assistance is available to the club and its players, depending on their needs and preferences.

In an official statement, the PFA expressed its deep sorrow:

“We are deeply shocked and saddened at the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with their family, loved ones, and Diogo’s teammates and friends at Liverpool FC. He was a loving father with a young family and a remarkable talent, hugely respected across the game. This is an unimaginable loss, and both will be greatly missed.”

The support initiative aims to help Liverpool’s squad and staff cope with the profound emotional impact of losing a teammate and friend.

Oh boy… this is incredibly sad.

First of all, thoughts are with all of their family. That must be an almost mortal blow never to (fully) recover from. Wish them strength and peace.

Puts things into perspective about life. I’m also having a tough time in the last 6 months with different health issues and people passing away in my family, but especially with my mother, who is seriously ill. I approach every new day spent with her like the most precious thing there is.

What can we do, we can remind ourselves sometimes and think bigger picture and how life is fragile, but we also cannot live in fear all the time. I guess like everything, it’s about balance.

Take care of ourselves, take care of our close ones, give good and practical advices, but also the small things. Show our love, always give that one more hug, kiss, wave or word of affection. Look back for eye contact until you can’t see each other.

Usually they say “all the best about the dead”, but in this case, from what I know as a fan and feel, I think Diogo was a genuinely likeable person. No cliche here.

Saw him as someone who is intelligent, ambitious, hard working, objective, a funny character, someone who I could easily imagine being available, helping and approach all kind of different characters you get in the game (and that’s the beauty of football for me, how so many differences in a dressing room can get together for a common goal).

Everything that recently happened makes it even more sad, the recent family events, the fact that his kids seem old enough(?) to realize (or soon) what happened. Cannot even imagine what that must feel like. Horrible.

Don’t know if the story about him being advised to go by ferry instead of flying is true. I’m just letting a few days to pass, so we know the truth as clear as possible. But ultimately, it doesn’t matter too much, unfortunately.

He was a good player and it seems like he was an even better person. We will talk about his football in time and his song will be there forever. Like Jurgen recently said, this is a fanbase that remembers! But it’s true, his final goal for us was very Jotaesque: an intelligent little pressing devil, more adroit than skilfull and a pretty good finisher.

I feel he will be quite a miss in the dressing room, I saw him as one of our most intelligent players (since Bobby left, probably our best player in the off the ball phase, now Szobo is up there). When he was healthy, in form or not, scoring or not, he was someone you could count on to do a job, or provide the best possible he had in himself on that day. Looked forward seeing him here for at least one more season as a squad player.

I personally wouldn’t retire numbers (and yeah, not even in this case), but that’s just me. Can understand it for the speciality of it and the little symbols (squad number 20, 20th league title, his song, etc.). No big deal.

Thank you, Diogo. We love you and we will never forget you. You shall survive among us, in our hearts and minds and through your song. I sang it all the way from the ground in Linz in 2023 back to where our car was parked, until I had no voice left! There might be more. Your family will be eternally thankful and proud. We were your friends and we had a really good time together.

You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Benfica Fan here.
Jota was the kind of player that even fans from rival clubs couldn’t help but admire.
That was my case, when he played for Porto. I just wanted you guys to know that. That’s how special he was.
I always loved the guy and it was a thrill watching him play for our national team.
We are ll in shock here in Portugal, no matter what club we support.
We cope with this kind of sad news each one in their one way.
Myself, I like to think that Eusebio is welcoming him and his brother in that special pitch in heaven, and they are all having a great time playing the sport they all loved so much.
Stay strong.
YNWA.

I think Alisson is the only first team player who did not pay tribute on his social media. Guess he was very close with Diogo because they were the only remaining Portuguese speakers in the squad.

Lost his father too not long ago. Hope Ali is doing well.
