YNWA Diogo Jota 4/12/96 - 3/7/25

Also means that whatever that would be spent as payout to Jota would come under the FFP rules. Doubtless the club was willing to go the extra mile rather than adhere to FIFA’s regulations. Wouldn’t expect any less from them.

I expected it, but I’m still proud of the club for going above and beyond and paying out the contract, and covering the education of Jota’s children. Classy move.

Thanks for making another thread available if anyone wants to track details around the crash, or the investigation or whatever. It is legitimate to be curious about that, but this thread is more of a celebration of the player, so the separation seems fitting. Thank you.

I’ve removed posts talking about the accident, including speculation on the cause. Let’s keep this as a thread about paying tribute to the player.

I find the aforementioned discussion in poor taste personally, but if people really feel a burning desire to talk about it, please either make or find a more suitable thread for it.

That’s interesting that fifa bar the contract being paid out. I would have thought that clubs would have had some sort of insurence policy or death in service policy to pay out to a players widow.

That’s why I was thinking it’s probably a stipulation for those clubs without a bowl to piss in.

Today I turned over to LFCTV and it was heartbreaking…Jota helped out Trent defending…went up the pitch and scored…we’ll never see that again…never hear his name on the pitch again…I don’t think I’ll get used to that…

Clubs generally have insurance on career ending injury to players. I have no idea whether it extends to death.

They don’t normally.

Heartfelt words from the CEO :broken_heart: A beautiful tribute to both brothers. Truly moving.

These are the 2 mural designs for the crowdfunded Diogo Jota and Andre Silva mural. TO VOTE, PLEASE GO TO MY “STORY” UPDATE,OR YOUR VOTE WON’T REGISTER (either here or on instagram).

The target to kickstart the project has now been met, huge thanks to everyone who donated – your generosity has been breath-taking! The money will go to charities / foundations set up in the bothers’ name. If you would still like to donate, you can do so here:

I welcome comments but please keep discussions respectful. I realise people may have different opinions regarding the images used, but please remember why we are doing this.

In designing a mural, there are a number of things which any street artist has to consider:

• Available source photos – quality, clarity, dimensions (there are not many photos of Andre online)

• Dimensions of the wall – Will the image fit well? Are there features such as windows, drains etc which need to be planned around

• Aesthetics – often less is more – a cluttered mural looks messy so sometimes I can’t include everything. Ultimately, a good artwork is better than a check list.

I’m hoping they might make/reserve a commemorative/held in spirit 25/26 kit for Jota this year. Maybe all proceeds go to his family would be a nice gesture as well

I knew they had insurance on sevre injuries, but wasn’t sure at what point it kicks in. I would have thought considering the amount of money involved especially in the top level contracts that would have also covered death in service but have never heard about it 100% so was curious if anyone else had heard anything

The grass and trees stretching from Anfield Road to Walton Breck Road have been coated with an immeasurable scale of love, grief, care, empathy, appreciation and respect for Diogo Jota and André Silva.

The handwritten notes, the stuffed animals left by small children wanting to share their source of comfort, the scarves, shirts, flags, the handmade frames, flowers, gaming controllers, paintings, cutouts; a sea of memories and moments…

The respectful silence is only pierced by sniffles. Diogo Jota was very loved and adored, and the nice thing is he could feel it, he could hear it with his song. In time, I hope his family and close circle are able to find comfort in how many lives he touched around the world; not just with his talent, but for who and how he was as a person.

Diogo played football like he was still paying to do so and he lived his life with such warmth, kindness and joy. I read a while ago that we should be the things we love the most about the person who is gone, so I hope we can be kinder and gentler to ourselves and others. I hope everyone grieving is doing so in their own way, at their own pace. Take care of yourself and others

For the first time, I am not excited about the upcoming season. It just feels unimportant and different. I can only imagine what the players are going through.
