Highly doubt that Howe is asking for some sort of “dictatorship”.
Things take time to settle, different people in different roles.
We found our winning formula after years of failed or not good enough attempts. Sometimes with some of the same people that were part of making it work later on.
Not long ago, Mitchell had good reputation when we were looking for a permanent Edwards replacement for a few years.
It did seem like something isn’t totally right there, so I think Newcastle want to kick on this summer and bring this team closer to challenging.
The Athletic is reporting this as Mitchell walking away. Their CEO had previously announced he’d leave at the end of the season because of health issues and they worked together at Spurs and he was the driving factor in bringing Mitchell in to replace Ashworth. They have not explicitly linked the two, but it seems relevant.
There doesnt appear to be indication he was been squeezed out with the reporting saying Newcastle were making big efforts to try to get him to change his mind.
Mitchell was on a break from football after leaving Spurs and after falling out with Levy supposedly placed working for the right person a critical ingredient in his next job. Working with someone he had a good existing relationship with was key to agreeing to join Newcastle in the first place and his exit, due to cancer, made Mitchell decide for himself that he just didn’t want to be there if his right hand was leaving.
For those with an Athletic subscription, this actually hit my inbox this morning and has some good details about it
Some interesting insights is that he absolutely was not pushed and while there was a bit of a battle for authority with Howe when he first joined he was happy with how it had been resolved. However, with the CEO leaving, the guy who had backed him in the power battle with Howe, he was maybe conscious of Howe eye up rerunning that battle again with a new CEO in place and he just couldnt be arsed to do it. But they make clear that this was not coming from Howe, but more just a guy who seemingly doesnt need to work anymore, knows there will be job offers when he’s ready to hear them, and after having been burned by a shit environment before just walking away at the first red flag.
He sort of had it throughout at the end of course the committee was signing players. But he bought Borini and Allen in his first years.
In fact it’s probably more due to the fact he was increasingly distrusted that the committee made more signings. I think the moaning about lack of tools basically left FSG thinking of getting rid.
We will see with Howe but Rodgers appears to have been poor in general.
That hit hards coming on the very next post to the one where I share an article about the situation and summarize it for people who cannot access the paywall that says that isnt at all what is happening.
Not sure what Newcastle’s status regarding PSR is, but I don’t think it necessarily means Isak leaves. Could see Howe using him with Isak, and it could really kick them on, and also add some much needed depth with Champions League football to factor in.
Just lifted this from a Sandcastle fan forum.. :0)
*Is anyone else thinking that Eddie howe is a genius and has played an absolute blinder and Liverpool took the bait hook line n sinker. *
*Thet wanted isak so howe goes all public (which is not how he operates) to say ekitike is no. 1 target. Liverpool then try and exploit us and say if we don’t sell them isak they will buy ekitike thinking they get one over us. *
*Instead we keep isak Liverpool spend 80 million on a player they didn’t really want which means they can’t buy isak and potentially have to sell elliot and howe moves in and buys him. * I think it’s a complete masterstroke
