Islam is practiced by diverse races across all of the continents, just as Christianity is. If he is attacking Islam that does not mean he is racist and it is important not to construe an attack on Islam as being a racist act which is a mistake made by many. I think all religions are shyte, personally, but at this point in history it is hard to deny that Islam, and the form advocated by and practiced by Saudi, is particularly virulent and violent with a number of suppressive regimes utilizing the religion as their vehicle.

Jumping on a statement about the Saudi flag is worrying about the tyre pressure being a bit low while the engine is about to catastrophically overheat.

“Who is the “they” and “their” that Peter is talking about here?”

I can’t see why there should be so much confusion. Yes , I am conflating the Taliban with the murderous regime in Saudi Arabia and I used the flag as a means of doing so because they are practically the same , as is the ideology which inspires both regimes.

I live in France but I come from the North West in the UK so both the Manchester and the Paris attacks had a profound effect on me. The ringleaders / co-ordinators of the Paris attacks were a pair of brothers from Molenbeek in Belgium. It was in the mosques here that they were radicalised into the salafist ideology that was exported throughout Europe by the Govt. of SA. (As a belated recognition of the deadly poison they had allowed to fester and its terrible consequences , SA agreed to give up control of Belgium’s largest mosque in a sign that it was trying to shed its reputation as a global exporter of an ultra-conservative brand of Islam. Too little , too late as far as I am concerned.

I see little difference between the suicide bombers of the Taliban and of those , in effect , commissioned by the Saudi State. Their actions both result from the same hateful ideology. And that is the point I was making.

‘His opprobrium is self-evidently directed at something else.’ … If that is the case , then maybe you can let me know what you imagine it to be. If it’s another lazy accusation of racism then I refer you to the answer I gave to uberkoen about my ongoing membership of the PSC. (Palestinian Solidarity Campaign)

Is criticising a religion racism now? Cos, we’re a bit fucked as a species if certain ideas about how the universe works and what the creator says we have to do are considered outside acceptable discourse.

We’re fucked as a species anyway.

You can’t really come into the thread calling everyone else hypocrites though when it’s only you that would be comfortable with that situation.

I don’t doubt anyone who says they would walk away.

Ah, the “I have friends who are black” defence.

My observation about where I felt your opprobrium was truly directed has since been confirmed, by you, as correct.

Agreed. Rather preposterous the whole idea or notion that religion cannot be criticised. Blind faith.

It would be hilarious if Newcastle went down this season, would they leave Bruce there and risk him not getting back to the Premier league or replace him? I don’t see Conte managing in the championship :rofl::rofl:

This has been sort of touched on in the Politics thread where there’s a discussion on corruption in the UK. Of course we’re against it with the discussion sort of centralising on whether the UK government is complicit or done enough to counter it. There’s relatively new legislation that’s been put in place following links to Russia and that has lead to a prosecution.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that London in particular has been uses as a laundromat for foreign money “investors”. Whether that continues or whether the legislation goes far enough is another matter.

The other side is perhaps those property purchases are legitimate?

Can see Stevie go there and Coutinho being their first signing.

In Manquillo and Shelvey they would have two former lfc teammates already there.

No , it hasn’t in fact. What has been confirmed is your eagerness to accuse me of racism where none exists. If you want to characterise my denunciation of a warped religious ideolgy , and its murderous adherents , as somehow being racist then you don’t really understand the concept of racism.

If that’s what I was doing, you’d be right.
