Al-Sandcastle - the sportswashing barcodes

Steve Bruce has been a solid citizen for the barcodes. Not a big name, but an old school football man who did a decent job.

I hope they give him another game at the helm, his 1000th as a manager, as that is such a milestone. If they are sacking him, and I’m sure they are, just a matter of when, it would be nice if he went out with some recognition.

Then again, he will have 8M stuffed in his back pocket, so I doubt he will be too heartbroken.

If Bruce is sacked you can bet that any incoming manager will want a hefty transfer budget.

So the idea of taking it slow and steady is bollox. Anyone spending that amount of cash will be in a hurry.

Whoever comes in should have a lot of easy upside, at least initially. I would imagine that any half decent football man could get them moving up the table, especially with the budget they will have.

After the first wave, the easy part, then it will need something else, something more, to crack the top four and then win the title.

Liverpool’s values are surely summed up by ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. This implies a sense of community and fraternity which are often broadly seen as left wing ideas. You can take that further, or you can leave it there.

Do we have any spies or volunteers on the Newcastle forums? Just wondering if they’ll go the direction of Blue Loon and how long it’ll take

They have a thread with a lot saying they are uncomfortable with the saudi takeover. There is a lot that are overjoyed with the takeover also. Already talking about Conte or Zidane been their next manager. They are dreaming big.

I don’t want to derail this thread, this post is 100% isolated as an observation to how our supporters practice such club principles…

Much like a lot of scripture in the Bible or any other religious text, I also believe a lot of these so called club principles are outdated and a bit idealistic for today’s “me-first” world. I take those sayings to represent a broader ethos, if you like, but much like scripture from religious texts, factions of Liverpool “supporters” use sayings like “you’ll never walk alone” and Shanks socialism to fit their own agendas to fight with other supporters that don’t 100% buy into their ideology.

I had to give up the Loon.

I’d rather spend my bandwidth watching Brazilian fart porn than read that shit. It is as toxic as it comes.

The Caf however…you can sense the fear in every post…makes me randy, tbh…

Unsurprisingly, Gerrard is being linked with the Newcastle job once Bruce is shown the door. Would be a great move for him and a potential stepping stone on the way to replacing Klopp one day, but I think Newcastle would go for someone with more experience. If Ralf Rangnick does get the sporting director role then maybe the new manager might be someone from Germany. Maybe a really dark horse here might be David Wagner. Of course, Favre would be much more likely, especially as he’s currently unemployed.

Newcastle United’s new owners are considering replacing manager Steve Bruce with Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard or ex-Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre. (Mail)

Former RB Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick is also being looked at by the new Newcastle United hierarchy for the role of sporting director. (Telegraph - subscription required)

It will be about this time in 2 years that Mourinhos tenure ends badly at Roma. Should time in well with the Toon spending spree.

You really need to stop wearing those shorts.

This is just plain wrong. If we look at how people start supporting teams, it’s either geographic reasons (started because you live in the area), family and friends (they brought you to a match and you were hooked), or other reasons (just happened to catch a game). Apart from the first, or perhaps because of family, starting when you were younger, how many people just watch one game and “magically” fall in love? Often it’ll be because of some other intangible element that you identify with, which we often deem to be the club’s identity.

Now, I vaguely recall @Kopstar arguing that socialism isn’t the cultural base of the club historically, with John Houlding himself having founded us because he wanted to profit off the investment he made in the land that is now Anfield. However, it is undeniable that Liverpool as a city is one which rather tends socialist. You’ll Never Walk Alone isn’t just a branding exercise, it’s an organic, integral part of our identity as a club. @Bekloppt isn’t wrong to talk about the ideals of community, fraternity, or even solidarity. That’s literally the meaning of the song we sing before and after games. If a supporter disagrees with those values, that I’m not entirely sure why they’re a fan of the club to be honest. I don’t see what other reasons why they’d be a fan of Liverpool, as opposed to perhaps a fan of Salah, or a fan of Klopp.

I hope you don’t really believe that community and fraternity are outdated.
These are core universal human values which have helped us create societies and progress as a species, not just a fad from the 1960s.
It would be a sad day if we ever lost sight of them.

I admire your optimism. But imagine Dortmund in a league with Bayern, Man Cheaty, Chelsea, the red mancs… In the long run, they’d stand no chance at all to maintain their status, and their economic model.

Of course, a good setup is a really good thing to have and makes up for having less money. But in the long run, you can’t compete with clubs who have bottomless pockets. The three league titles Cheaty have won over the last four years is a testimony to that. Despite of us providing stiffer competition than they’ve ever had, thanks to the unique genius of Klopp and co.

But when Klopp will walk, it will be very hard for us not to fade away I’m afraid.

Like Nottingham Forest’s? Or Derby’s?

Of course our legacy (title numbers and so on) will stay. But that is no guarantee that we will stay on top forever in terms of competitivity. Nothing is eternal.

England and most other European countries have allowed these vile fuckers to gain too much ground in their respective countries and economies since far too long. I’ve criticised this since years on TIA and then on here, and I’ve not been the only one.

That one is dead since Cheaty have been let out of the hook by the CAS, after being attacked by UEFA for a breaching of FFP. Since then, it has become obvious that UEFA haven’t the legal means to force the most powerful (and corrupt) clubs to respect FFP.

I do. I think people, by and large, are mostly full of shit. Just look at someone like @redalways……

@redalways I stopped reading after you told me I’m just plain wrong. You are a master conversationalist.

EDIT: and clearly my point was missed entirely.

@redalways says he lives and breathes and practices “you’ll never walk alone”

Also @redalways: “you’re wrong if you don’t agree with me!”
