I stand to be corrected but I believe the current German model that is so widely lauded was actually changed to get investment in and not the other way around.
Who pays when any privately owned entity turns into a cooperative/is bought out by a community or membership?
Not saying itâs instantaneous or easy for a club of Liverpoolâs size, but given the radical tradition in the city and among the fanbase (plus we have fans on the board) itâs a more realistic long term aim than for many of our rivals. On a smaller scale, up here in Scotland teams like Motherwell and Hearts have recently done it and itâs been hugely positive.
Yes, I think itâs a transitional system rather than an endpoint.
The book Another Football is Possible (about the club St Pauli) is worth reading on this.
Liverpool is valued at around ÂŁ2billion.
Unfortunately, thatâs beyond any crowd funder.
Take a look at the 6 following that. Burnley (H), Leicester (A), Liverpool (A), Man City (H), Man Utd (H), Everton (A). All prior to 1 January when the transfer market opens.
At first I thought it was a bit ridiculous seeing pundits talking about relegation despite only being a few games into the season. But if you look at that fixture list they may well still be in single digits by the time the new year comes around, regardless of who the manager is.
The Palace, Brighton and Brentford games are going to be fascinating to watch as they will really need those points. On paper I donât rate their chances of getting much more than a point or two until they face Norwich.
Yup Palace seem to have started to put in some performances, Brentford arenât a bad team but better at home so your looking at Norwich as potentially there only points there.
Have to realise that half of these are on the road too, fans will delight on showing disgust for at least the first few weeks and Palace fans especially wonât show much restrain in that.
Python:
We can agree that itâs totally impossible to have fan ownership but we should have the rightâŚâŚ
Bloody loony
There are two problems I have with fan ownership
-
Itâs unrealistic. Liverpool are valued beyond the point where a fan buyout could ever be achieved. It would need government intervention to essentially nationalise football clubs (before converting them to public assets), with the incredible expense that would be incurred to conpensate owners. It wouldnât happen - least of all under the Tories. Labour wouldnât go there either, and there are loads of industries that should be nationalised before football.
-
It would be unworkable. I donât think the collective mindset of football fans is conducive to the kind of long term strategic decision making that is needs to make football clubs successful or even viable. We saw how fans reacted over the summer with signings. Weâve seen how the Socio model has buried Barcelona. I wouldnât want that kind of hind brain, chimpanzee, thinking in the boardroom, and likewise I wouldnât want the passion and investedness of fans lessened because weâre also trying to have an eye on the business side as well.
Just been reported that Bruce has been sacked.
Mutual consent lol
As ever, a Yes Minister sketch leaps to mind:
I remember arguing your second point with a certain Eastern based poster once of this parish. Never ever put fans in charge of the club as youâll have Leeds MK11 after their CL semi-final in a few years.
Nice last gesture from Bruce.
Although I think he knew even before Tottenham, you could see it on his face. They were going to part in coming weeks, especially if defeats continued.
what did he do?
Itâs strange that fan participation has not led to that kind of problem in the Bundesliga
I couldnât agree more.
bundesligas got its own problems though hasnt it.
for all the hipsters that love the league so much because of its atmosphere, its a cracking breeding ground for talent, but, âŚits still a rortâŚbayern win it every year. whats the point of it?
Was she a part of the DIC bid ?
So it begins⌠didnât take long!
For ÂŁ8m, heâs probably more than happy enough for it to me marked down as mutual consent.
Football Management must one of the few professions where it is more lucrative to be shit at your job.
