Al-Sandcastle - the sportswashing barcodes

Short sighted of them. FSG kept hodgson for a few weeks after their takeover when everyone knew he was dead coach waking. King Kenny might not have been the best possible choice to replace but it did show a certain understanding

I suppose shearer or some such would be the closest parallel for Newcastle which would be likely to go far worse.

Spanish reports that Barcelona is expecting an offer from Newcastle for Coutinho, while also suggesting that Emery turned them down because they wanted to be able to terminate him if they got relegated this season. So, that is an offer for a talented attacking player who thrives on open attacking play, but struggles with confidence, and an attempt to lure a manager away with promises of a long-term vision, but a short-term out for themselves.

I donā€™t think they have thought this through.

Theyā€™ll go for fat frank. After Howe turns them down too

Keegan for sure Iā€™d say.

Iā€™d be looking at players like Ramsay, Wilshere, Coutinho going to Newcastle. All quality players but some of them who have not kicked on to the next level. Wilshere and Ramsay might well be given a pay as you play type of contract (Wilshere especially).

Not sure who else they can attract given their relegation battle. Madness for them to sack Bruce, Liverpool werenā€™t facing relegation when Hodgson was sacked. Newcastle are in threat of being relegated. Should have given Bruce time till Jan to see if he could have turned things around.

Four points from relegation, five from rock bottom when Roy went over the side, and it had been worse. But they did not make the new manager the first question they addressed, and even when they moved in January, it was because of a sense of Roy losing control (and a tonne of matchesā€¦)

Liverpool did have enough quality though that a relegation was never in serious doubtā€¦ even if it was Hodgson there

And you could never have said we were anything likeā€¦ Newcastle!

At that stage weā€™d won the CL only five years earlier while in most peoples living memory Newcastle have only won the Championship and the fucking Intertoto Cup.

I think this could be dangerous for them this season. Howe was I think too lazily linked with almost every job since he got relegated with Bournemouth and left them. Not saying heā€™s not good, butā€¦ itā€™s a tricky situation with the style of Rafa/Bruce and now Howe, who will need to fight relegation.

Itā€™s not that easy, hence why a few managers already rejected the idea. Who is even there for footballing matters between the head coach and the board? Very early days. Could be a long rest of the season ahead.

I honestly do not get Eddie Howe.

Howe is absolutely not the sort of manager you want to get a limited side to tighten up, stop dropping points, and scrape out survival. He might be the right guy to build an attacking side over time with the right talent - he did it at Bournemouth, it just stopped working when the talent level of the opponents went up. But Newcastle made it clear to Emery that they wanted the manager they hire to survive this season, and were not willing to allow for the possibility of not happening. Howe is more like the manager after the one they hire now.

They should have stuck with Bruce until they had something agreed with a replacement.

Worst case scenario they go down, but at that point whoā€™s to say Rafa isnā€™t available again if the bitters turn on him. Not that itā€™s a cert heā€™d go back there.

Anybody who is approached by Newcastle knows they will be sacked, if they are relegated this season. So, they are unlikely to be offered more than an 18 month contract.

Which more or less confines them to the ā€˜out of a jobā€™ segment of the market. It is the only real logic for Howe.

Thereā€™s a sense for most managers that the job they have is only for 18 months, maybe less, if they donā€™t perform to expectations. Itā€™s a short term world, by and large.

Go to Newcastle, avoid relegation, consolidate, buy some players in January and summerā€¦ start climbing the table.

Lots of managers should back themselves to do that, which appears to be the job in hand, at least for the first phase.

Itā€™s a short term world, cushioned by the big payout for the remaining years on your contract when you get fired. Unless the one year is worth a great deal more than the one year elsewhere, only managers running down their contract are going to find that appealing. Any of them who are really thinking about will realize that it is a much trickier problem than it looks at first glance - the players you want in January to survive may not be the ones you want next season, the players you can get in January may not be a good fit in the next season.

No doubt, there will be some one, but I doubt there will be elated crowds in Bedouin costume in front of St. James when the new manager is named.

Why take the job get sacked now when you can have the same job 6 months later once the new season starts(wont even matter if Newcastle get relegated , they can spend money in the Championship that should get them back up quickly.

Will be madness for howe to take the job but i reckon there are the likes of allardyce , pulis , pardew whoā€™ve made a career of jobs like this.

Ditto. Could have easily chosen a scottish league club and remade his reputation.

Best case scenario they go down

At some point , bournemouth will get back to howe though. One of the reasons that eddie got sacked was his failures in the transfer market. Incredible amount stumped for ibe and solanke. Not that Iā€™m complaining mind
