In September (possibly October) of 2008 an energized, motivated and impeccably coached team ran out 2-3 comeback winners away from home against City. Fast forward 2 short years to August 2010 and Roy Hodgson, with much the same team barring the loss of Alonso and a by now wanting away Mascherano, was quipping with the media that he hoped we didn’t lose 6 nil and we got thrashed 3-0.
That was down to Hodgson being a bit useless, of course, but also down to a pretty startling revolution at City. Robinho was not a success by any measure and the likes of Kompany coming in were significantly more instrumental but Robinho’s arrival, while nothing tangible on the field, really set the tone for the next few years.
Partially agreed. Signing someone like Coutinho may set the tone but its a different ballgame today compared to what it was back then. FFP ( hopefully) will be in back of their minds while spending. The race to top 6 (if I am not wrong it used to be top 4 back then) is tougher now. Apart from Everton, the midtable teams don’t let our direct competitors to roll over them.
I think it is not going to be easy for them unless they sign Micheal fucking Edwards.
If your Sterling why on earth would you want to go there. If your a half decent Premier league squad player at one of the too sides your not giving that up to go to a struggling side with a new manager.
Poor lad, that’s a promising career ruined already…
Edit: on the other hand, he has made his bed now, so he’ll need to lie into it. I cross fingers anyway that they get relegated. They are now a plague which needs to be eradicated.
