Al-Sandcastle - the sportswashing barcodes

He is not shit though is he….

Bournemouth should be dead like a hundred and one other clubs, he somehow kept them up when a relegation would have seen liquidation.

He then took them through four divisions and kept them in the PL for a few seasons. They have since stayed in the Playoffs or higher even with multiple changes on and off the pitch.

Criticise his high spending and the fact they were defensively naive at times in the PL but you can’t call the guy shit after effectively one job.

Howe hasn’t always played attacking football in fact the Bournemouth before he returned were a bit of a mixed bag. It’s if he can adapt with a different side and change. I don’t think Rodgers has particularly learnt that.

He spent some cash at Bournemouth towards the end and it didn’t go too well. I’ll be interested to see how he fares at Newcastle now where there are even less financial constraints. Building a side based purely on player value doesn’t translate into success as many have found.

Actually, thinking about it, I won’t be interested at all watching this lot force feed themselves up the table.

In fairness to Howe I’ve always rated him based on the transfer from us. Which were shocking.

By all accounts he appears to be a good coach… but we’ll see.

Worth mentioning he did get Bournemouth through the divisions and kept them in the PL for a while - clearly pinching above their weight as their set up and stadium is more like league 2

Are we sure Howe was in full control over transfer decisions at Bournemouth. He was still very young and inexperienced.

The got the chance to sign Ibe and Solanke any they did. Those signing were no brainers for a club like Bournemouth. Overpriced of course because they were young and English.

Hasn’t Solanke done ok?
When Ibe first appeared for us he seemed like he would be great. No idea what happened there.

I would think probably so. Howe’s importance to Bournemouth would have probably led to them giving him more of a say on that front.

I think he had depression?

Sorry to hear that. I remember a league cup game against Southampton where Origi got a hat trick. He was brilliant that night.

PS Origi’s hat trick was fake

There was a time when I thought Ibe had more promise than Sterling. He certainly had better ball control.

Was literally just about to say the same thing.

Initially, no. In the Championship, yes.

I see them both as partly the signings why they went down. It’s gone a bit stale and the moves weren’t great.

Solanke improved with time, though we’ll see if he’s ever a PL player. Ibe is a complete flop (I think some things were already evident with us after 40 odd games in Klopp’s first season). And I think the depression story came out after.

Left hand right hand own goal?

One great shot, one good header and one possible faintest of faint touches as a rocket shot from Moreno (?!) flew past him.
Check the highlights in the video thread.

An auspicious start

I’m glad to see Eddie is following my approach in Football Manager for teams I don’t like - train the whole team as goalkeepers, set a formation where the whole team lune up on the flanks and then go on holiday for 6 months or so.

Top of the table - not :joy:

Unfortunately it’s just 5 points until 17th place.

Hopefully Leeds can get a point tomorrow.

I’d lose my last bit of respect for Arsenal if they don’t manage to best Newcastle on Saturday early kickoff.

Sean Longstaff needs to find a new club. The name, the look. Screams Crusader. Can’t have him playing for the Saudis.

When they got new owners I sort of thought Newcastle would start to rise up the table and add players in due course, and basically finish mid table and have a big summer and look to go higher again. That was the assumed trajectory.

I am thoroughly enjoying watching them stuck at the bottom, losing, losing, losing.

Relegation is a very real possibility, and at that point, their riches will help them less, as good players won’t want to join them to scrap their way out of the Championship in obscurity away from the media glare.

Here’s hoping.
