Unless he just wanted to come back to England, signing of Chris Wood would suggest to me short term which is kind of what they can now do with the money, until Wilson is back for next season.

Newcastleâs problems will not solved immediately by signing a couple of players. They should of course sign players to ensure they stay in the league and build on it in the summer. But the young striker Hugo Ekitike they are linked with looks pretty good for a 19 year old. Not lacking in confidence, lanky, likes to run with the ball and has decent pace.

So right now we can be fairly sure that Howes tactics will be to get the ball to Trippier on the right wing, who then crosses to Wood to head the ball in the goal.
