To be fair, they are using quotation marks and the ‘fans should dream’ quote is from Eddie Howe. But the ‘special special Newcastle’ quote is from Pat Nevin, in his job as a Radio 5 Live so-called analyst. Maybe that would be alright if Nevin had written the whole report, but it is over the top.
Or perhaps the headline writers at bbc.com are just being cheeky.
Every season exactly the same.
Team does well first few games they explode how amazing they are.
It’s a marathon not a sprint.
Was impressed by them to be fair. I think they will be fighting again for CL football.
Villa are/were also wildly overrated coming into this season, which adds to the narrative for Newcastle. Villa will finish top 10 but the people predicting CL finishes are just so reactive to a good run at the end of last season.
Hard for me to give praise to Newcastle. Another nation state project, the richest one of all. While the barcode fans were delirious and all, we can’t forget who they are. It’s a sham.
Yup we just don’t know where Villa are at the moment.
Up to this game today everyone looked pretty much how they finished or were for the second part of last season. But Newcastle started well last season as well, I think the only team to beat them for over the first 19 was us.
They will also have Europe.
As for Villa who really knows, are they just reverting to their norm. They also have Europe.
Newcastle’s next two games should be a reality check; City and then us.
If they have nine points from three games then they really would be ‘super, super Newcastle’.
As @RedOverTheWater says above, they’re just another sportswashing machine.
They could win all 38 games this season, but they won’t get any credit from me.
I refused to watch MoTD last night for exactly that reason and I won’t for the remainder of the season. I can’t stand listening to Lineker and Shearer fawning over this lot.
I dislike Sandcastle more than I dislike QSG, Chelski, and Cheaters. I feel they will cause more harm than those three combined.
Dunno all three could happily fuck off to a world league and English football would be better for it.
FIFY
I’m confused - why would a game at St James’ Park not involving Newcastle United count towards FFP? The intake from that fixture isn’t club income, its income for the ownership group because they own the stadium but its not income to the club surely?
Is it counted towards FFP when Elton John plays at Anfield?
If the model is just “anything that happens at your stadium is FFP-able” then just open a tonne of businesses and register them at the stadium. Liverpool FC Recruitment Agency, Liverpool FC Construction Company, Liverpool FC Agency for Arranging Fake International Friendlies.
Yessir our U10s friendly we held at Anfield raised an amazing £100m for the club.
What a nonsense.
Don’t St James / Newcastle get some revenue for hosting the matches ? For the usage of the pitch/stadium etc.
Yes, presumably it is as that’s part of the commercial revenue the club earns isn’t it? It’s why London clubs have a distinct advantage as they can host a wider range of commercial and corporate events.
Presumably the ownership owns St. James Park but it is leased to the club (if not owned directly by them) which will probably have a clause on what activities the club is allowed to run and how income from events is accounted for?
It seems total nonsense to me. “The Club” isn’t hosting Saudi international matches, St James’ Park is. Can a club just buy the Echo Arena and claim the income of concerts?
I’m sure there are rules laid out but it seems rather arbitrary when the club owned by the governmrnt of Saudi can host Saudi international matches and write it off against their financial obligations to fair play.
Spurs do the same thing - the interesting thing about this is that it creates a strong incentive not to separate the club from the grounds in the ownership structure, a move that has been beloved of dodgy owners for a couple of generations now
I think this will be treated as commercial revenue. I’m trying to see whether Liverpool FC get anything from hosting the Taylor Swift concert.
