sky high expectations, but no pressure.
I could end up being wrong, but I suspect we may ease him in gradually over the course of a few weeks after the international break - combination of him missing the whole of preseason and being denied proper training by Newcastle, and Ekitike starting so well reducing the need to throw Isak straight in.
He’s pure quality, no doubt, just wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t start to see the best of him until October.
Makes sense. I’m assuming he will play for Sweden, but a planned sub for his first couple of games would make sense.
Yeah, I would go further than that and probably ease him in beyond that with game time primarily coming from the bench for the next month or so as he won’t have had a proper preseason.
Not sure whether Ekitike is going to do a full 90 per game for us every game he plays, if not then that is one avenue to him getting game time with us keeping the same shape.
I think we should start him with the Southampton match. That would be somewhere between the 15th to the 22nd. We’ve got Burnley in the 14th of September, Atletico 18th and Everton 20th. I assume that the we get the league cup on the 22nd.
Wouldn’t mind him coming in as a substitute against Burnley, Atletico to get some minutes under his boot too. But his first start should be in the Southampton game.
Depends on how quickly he gets match fit ofcourse. But that’s 4 games in the span of 8 days.
Atletico is 17th and Southampton sometime during the week of 22nd. I thought games on 18th, 20th and 22nd sounded a bit much
was seeing the time in IST for the UCL matches. My bad.
Blame the different timezones and @BeKloppt.
The pressing aspect interests me a lot, because our defensive phase isn’t where it should be. Those #9 and #10 positions are going to be interesting to follow.
Undoubtedly the best #9 in the league by a considerable margin.
Is he joining up with the Swedish squad in the next days?
Hopefully Sweden are careful with him, he seems to suggest as much in the interview. Wouldn’t be against him getting some minutes but not 90 mins from the start both games like some managers in international football would do.
Well he would know about downing his tools to force a move to another club.
Body language experts in full motion.
Gordon is still not getting a move to Liverpool.
The Swedish manager seemed very protective of him during his interview. I think it was perfect; he went on international duty and will have his own people giving him a big hug and getting him right.
He’s only the second swedish player to play for Liverpool. The other Scandinavian countries have had more representation.
Glenn Hysen was excellent in his first season with us, but his legs noticeably went in his second. I hope Isak’s career doesnt peak so quickly and is a long and successful one.
