Feel that buying even someone like Gordon might have actually make more sense than buying Isak, since a proper Diaz replacement should have been a speedy winger rather than a goal poacher (I don’t remember Semenyo being on our radar last year or last summer).
At the beginning of the season, the management’s explanation was to give Rio more opportunities, which actually makes sense to a certain degree. But ever since the Newcastle match Slot did not bother to play the boy at all.
I think in a side that is purring and winning games of football comfortably, he would be ready. But I don’t think we can expect him to be ready for this kind of football, amongst senior players looking mentally fragile.
I’ll be patient with any prognosis before we hear what happened and how long. Like it turned out with Szobo this week. Alisson said he thinks he’ll be fine. Hopefully not something serious.
Gordon also proved at Newcastle that he can play in more than one position/role. Whether someone likes him or not, if he was here, I’d say there’s a good chance he’d be a starter on the left side.
The reports are all referencing needing to wait for MRI results which by itself puts the focus on the joint (ligaments) rather than the bone so the speculation is perfectly consistent with that.
Poor lad… my doubts about his patchy fitness record are well-known, but here, he’s just victim of a nasty attack which definitely warranted a red card.
Hopefully he’ll soon be on a football pitch again, fingers crossed!
