I’m not despaired for the time being. I believe that Iraola has it in his locker to unleash the best out of all our players. We know that they are high quality. At some point, they’ll click as a collective, and then individual quality will be able to emerge and make the difference. Patience.

Service and passing into him was poor but he looked awful in every aspect.

Energy? Desire? Involvement? We didn’t buy a version of Andy Carroll whose effectiveness is defined only by the quality of the balls we can get into the box. We bought the most well rounded, all around center forward in the world. We don’t need him to be a false 9 or dropping into midfield to get touches, but we do need him to offer angles and threaten runs in a way that makes the defense believe you actually want the ball and have to respond to that movement.
We know he’ll score those goals that he got today, but not enough to justify the price tag or blowing up the entire balance of the front line to accommodate if he doesn’t bring the rest of the package.

It’s great that he got a predatory goal because we’ve missed a goal poacher, but his overall game was pretty much unacceptable. Lead boots, can’t move, can’t run, can’t control the ball. He’s playing like he’s missed the entire preseason again.

Haaland had 22 touches against Palace so its not wholly untrue the difference is City gave Haaland those touches where he can make an impact. We get the ball forward so slowly it doesn’t help him at all.
