I can’t imagine anything happening with today’s match on. I would imagine that if anything is going to happen, then it will have been all sorted barring the signatures and we will have the announcement around tomorrow lunchtime.

In terms of drama, the one were Torres left and we panic bought Carroll has to be up there.
In terms of quality, we can only really determine that at the end of the season. Shankly signing Yeats and St John in 1961 when we were still in the 2nd Division has to be up there for sheer chutzpah.

I thought this but then do we not want to push the Guehi deal along so he doesn’t play tonight? I’d certainly hope that’s what we’re pushing for anyway now we’ve lodged a bid and don’t seem to be too far apart.
Isak does feel like it might go down to the wire and depend on Newcastle getting their second striker in. Looks like Wolves are keen to resist advances for Strand-Larsson and Brentford are desperate to fleece them.

I was thinking the same about the Torres/Carroll window and that this one can only be judged fully with hindsight but then didn’t write it to keep the post short…
This window is a bit like watching a re-run of Only fools and Horses - you may or may not remember the ending but you know it’ll be funny and light hearted and you know you’ll come away happy. The Torres/Carroll window was more like the Wire, set against a dark back drop with desperate characters and it never felt like that there was going to be a happy ending. Maybe that’s just me.

Palace has just done a deal for a defender. I don’t much buy this, we keep getting arbitrary reasons why nothing is happening.
I don’t expect this one happens now, it’s far too late and the clubs aren’t speaking and Newcastle are probably still sticking to the 2 strikers in bollocks. Evidently that’s the excuse they will use to Isak even if Brentford don’t stand on Wissa, Newcastle will probably say they need 3 or loan Osula out and go well we needed two in.
As I said never deal with them again.
I expect Guehi happens as there is clear dialogue and the parties aren’t far apart.

I have a suspicion that Guehi was agreed in July, but we allowed him to stay until the end of the month in return for a discount of sorts. We’ll find out tomorrow.
