Alexander Isak (CF) Newcastle

Id go Alvarez over Isak if it was an option.

So would I.
But Isak would be a decent consolation prize.

I feel that Isak is a superior option to Alvarez but the latter is probably more resistant to injuries. Both are quality players and I’d love it if Liverpool could sign either of them for a reasonable fee.

That said, Isak has proven himself as an amazing all-rounder, leading the line in a good side but one that was inferior to Guardiola’s City that Alvarez played for. He has all the qualities a potentially great Liverpool centre forward should have, I can see why it’s almost “Isak or bust” for Hughes and co. Club don’t spend big money unless the target is plan A, like Van Dijk or Alisson (or some other players that I don’t want to mention, or else I’ll be going into full Eeyore mode).

How bad is he injury wise? He appeared to have missed 9 games last season, but 7 were with a broken toe, which is more of a bad luck thing than something that is likely to reoccur.

He was out for 3 months in 22/23 with a thigh injury, but that doesn’t seem to have happened again.

He’s susceptible to niggles, I got the impression from Transfermarkt that he misses roughly ten matches every season.

I’d never have thought that you out of all people would give me hope on this one! :+1: :joy:

I’m not! I’m just saying that Newcastle are lying when it comes to their reported desire to have Isak and Ekitike playing together.

: "One more thing that I would say that is worth underlying in this whole process is that Richard Hughes and Eddie Howe are long-time friends.

“With that in mind, and this is something emphasised to me by a source, surely Richard Hughes isn’t going into this situation blind, believing that Newcastle are just going to reject this, I think he must have a sneaking suspicion that there’s a possibility of Liverpool doing a deal here."

I watched that Lynch video yesterday, and was very surprised to learn that Eddie Howe and Richard are very good friends and talk to each other regularly. So maybe there’s more to it than what’s being communicated.

He talks about that around 4min55

Hughes was I think Sporting Director at Bournemouth when Howe was manager there, so they know each other well.

Someone said Edwards was also in the Bournemouth setup at the time, although I haven’t checked the dates on that to verify.

So how would everone feel about this scenario playing out:

Newcastle sign Ekitike with us stepping aside then we go and spend £135M on Isak with Newcastle then go out and renew their interest in Mbeumo and nick him after he grows tired of Utds inability to complete the deal with Brentford?

Isn’t it supposed to be 120mp?

Ive heard 120 and as high as 150 so decided to go down the middle. But cost is not so important as to the actual moves themselves.

Don’t care what they do after we get either Isak or Etiquette.

I think they’ve probably signed Elanga instead of Mbuemo already.

And much as it would be funny because of how it would mess with United, Newcastle will be stronger competition this coming season, so would be against anything that made them stronger.

Nah. He was at Portsmouth. Edwards and Howe had about 6 months of a cross over period when Howe was there as a player in around 2003/4 and Edwards was a technical analyst.

Ah, that makes sense. So there is crossover there too.
