I’m not sure why LFC are cast as the villain in all this… Going from reports, which is all we can do, LFC informed Sandcastle of their interest in Isak if he was to be sold.
All the other noise generated in these events, surely is between Isac and his employer, Sandcastle. Regards contract issues etc… again is of no concern to LFC.
We have left it to Sandcastle, to contact us, after their initial (fuck off you are avin a laugh) rebuff, of our desire to buy if the situation with Isac has changed. Could even be a similar scenario to seeing a custom car pulling up at the fuel pumps and saying to the guy, " hey if you ever want to sell your car, let me know first will ya"… or noting a neighbours parcel of land, again “hey, if you ever want to sell that land, let me know first will ya”
Whatever is happening on Tyneside… is between an employer and a disgruntled employee… If Isak does become a free agent at some future point, then our dealings are surely with him, NOT the club he was once employed with… Any compensation claim, is by who..? from who..?? OR, does the fact remain; even though lawyers might argue otherwise; any type of compensation would be difficult to pursue… certainly compensation from LFC..!
If Isak approaches LFC as a free agent, it is not our problem what kind of shitstorm has been left in his wake at Sandcastle..!
well LFC are taking a risk because at the moment we are still 2 forwards and 1 CB light…for all the money we have spent we have let too many go as it stands - with more tipped to go - and as usual look short.
Better get another striker and get Guehi done.
If Isak comes in as a free agent, then so be it.
It may simply be deflection by Newcastle to cover their own failings, or to avoid burning bridges with their own player. But it probably also opens the door to suggestions we spoke to the player’s camp without permission (i.e tapping up) and thus provoked or encouraged his actions.
Which may further explain why we said we would only bid for Isak when invited to do so by Newcastle.
…Or his agent approached us last summer, and said he will be leaving Sandcastle after this season if you are interested, so get your bid in early..!
Many scenarios are possible…
Bit if Newcastle maintain no permission was given then that may still open us up to accusations of ‘tapping up’ as any discussions were without the consent of the club (i dont think FA rules distinguish between whether contact is initiated by club or player’s camp?).
Whether or not we did is a separate matter. This is more about Newcastle’s perception of the events and how they are presenting the matter (which itself may differ from how they perceive it).
As i think @mattyhurst said earlier, our club are saying little so the narrative in the media is being driven by Newcastle and the player’s camp.
Can we say anything w/o making ourselves look worse and, then also getting dragged into an unnecessary back and forth. It’ll playout one way or the other, sooner or later.
The only reason maybe to say something is if we feel it is impacting our players and staff…
Who cares about the media narrative.
We made Newcastle a bid for one of their players. They said no and we’ve said fine and walked away. Even our usual mouthpieces have been relatively quiet on things whilst Newcastle pump out stories through the journos they have in their pocket.
Clearly the player feels he was promised something he isn’t getting. That’s not our doing and so far we’re the only club who’ve offered Newcastle a way out of this situation, it’s just that, like most transfers, it’s not entirely on the terms they want.
Be interesting to see how this plays out but if anything Newcastle have just shown how badly they are being run. They’re taking him wanting to move on as a personal slight and allowed the situation to overshadow their whole summer and start to the season. His value is only going down at this point too.
The masterstroke here was using Milton as our chief negotiator when we submitted the initial bid.
Not our fault they didn’t understand what he was trying to tell them…
According to FIFA regulations, a professional football player can terminate their contract after a certain period, specifically after three years if the contract was signed before the player was 28, or after two years if signed after the age of 28. This is outlined in Article 17 of FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. However, there are specific conditions and potential consequences for doing so.
Conditions for Termination:
Time served:
The player must have served at least three years of the contract if it was signed before the age of 28, or two years if signed after the age of 28.
So YES,Isak can apply the FIFA rule on August 26th, 2025…that’s the date of his 3rd year contract with Newcastle FC.
Interested to see what we do now. On a side note, Rodrygo was unused in Real Madrid’s game last night, and any move from Man City for him depends on selling Savinho to Spurs. If we’re going to pivot, and move for a wide player who can also play up front, we need to strike now.
I’m dreading the Newcastle game right now. Their fans are convinced it’s all down to Isak and our doing, and the atmosphere will be rabid. It would be best if we either make a final bid and agree a deal before the game, and then confirm the signing after, or we move on.
Are promises in his contract? Agreements? I don’t know of any clause…
Let’s see if he’s still willing to rotten outside the pitch if he’s still there in September.
Can’t see buying or moving on at this point alleviating this toxic situation. The Newcastle board has created this mess and caused a media frenzy of obfuscation. It’ll be as bad as playing Everton.
The frenzy will be even worse if the International break comes around and Sandcastle have failed to earn a point in the games up until then… Panic mode, as well frenzy will really grab a hold if that scenario unfolds :0)
Ahhhh… so they did :0)
With all due respect, he was league’s best centre forward last season (and among the best five since he’s been in PL, in my opinion at least), so in that sense he’s not a luxury signing but one you’d ideally want in your team.
That said, they way Newcastle have handed this has been nothing short of disastrous. I was confident he’d sign for Liverpool but I really don’t know what to expect now.
You Brits have that expression “he’s off his tits” and it pops up in my mind whenever I read stuff from people like Luke Edwards. He used to be an excellent journalist prior to Newcastle’s takeover - since then, he’s been unbelievably petty and snide. You could imagine the scenario where Isak signs for Liverpool, fails to score some sitter or two (let alone completely flops) and Edwards starts @-ing and goading every Liverpool account on Twitter in retaliation.
It’s time he went the Gallas route ![]()
I can’t really call the outcome here. My feeling is Newcastle the club would happily sell Isak to us asap and use the funds to strengthen, but Newcastle the owners have had their egos pricked and are determined to keep him out of spite just to save face. The money means little to them.
Being able to buy out his contract - I’m confused as to whether he can do it FROM the 26th or BY the 26th - is interesting though, and at that stage seems the most likely route that leads to him playing for us this season.
However, I’m not entirely convinced he’ll go that route, it would be the first time in the sport that would have happened, right?
