Alexis Mac Allister (CM) Brighton & Hove Albion

Is this the first time we’re signing a World Cup winner?

If not, I bet there were not many times in our history that it happened.

Bernard Diomede I think?

He played as a CB and a false 9 for us as well. I loved the guy and he was a hugely underrated player.

Glad we nailed this transfer.

He signed a contract extension last October to stay until 2025, as his contract was due to run out this summer. Alexis therefore had a great deal of leverage during negotiations to add a low buy-out clause, one that probably wasn’t ridiculously far off his actual value at that point in time. It just happened that his best football came after signing the contract so it’s a big win for us.

The bar for our midfielders this season is really low. If it is not for Klopp suddenly pushing Trent to be in midfield during transitions, we are fucked.

I don’t disagree about their comments that big clubs like ours should have to pay through the nose to buy a small club’s players, but re-signing a player just before a world cup, in large part due to the timing of the world cup just as his old contract was about to expire, was just really awkward timing for BHA.

They had little power due to the expiring of the existing contract, so they had to protect as much value of Mac Allister as they could, knowing he could have a good WC.

The stars aligned for us in terms of why we are paying what we are paying, but I feel BHA had little choice in improving that situation.

True it’d be interesting to see how he ranks in the whole league. James Ward-Prowse would probably rank first if just comparing with our non-existent midfield this season.

If the surrounding players once the possession has been gained aren’t in a position to recieve the ball… He’s got no option but to take the safe route.

That said , I do remember him playing quite a lot of progressive passes as well… Just that with a lot of players when they leave Liverpool (we don’t tend to remember those )

And for Alexis, Liverpool makes the most sense.

There would have been other clubs lining around but why to to them and a) regress in terms of United or b) warm the bench in terms of city when he can establish his legacy here even if it means missing out on CL once.

Well, we didn’t renew their contracts so they were free to go to wherever would offer a contract although, in fairness, one came with a first aid kit and the other a pension book.

Can anyone compare Bellingham and his last season with Keita during his Leipzig days ?

Exactly he is the one you know the club indulge.

Koné…Thuram…Lavia…

Nope, a lot of attacks/breaks petered to a stop with the ball at his feet, taking too long in possession or playing a safe pass or poor pass when one quality pass would have had us through on goal.
