This is the latest tactic Klopp is deploying. By wearing your shirt backwards, the opponent will think you are running towards them and by the time they realize that Salah is actually sprinting towards their goal instead of them, its too late for them to catch up. Play hard but also play smart.
His record is exceptional, however he’s missed a couple of late and his approach doesnt (and never has) fill me with loads of confidence. Mac seems to hit a much cleaner penalty. Ive always also preffered Milly on pens, but appreciate that once he wasnt a regular starter he wasnt going to take them.
Antipathy isnt the right word by the way. Ive not such strong feelings on the matter.
Salah is one of the better penalty takers in the league. Not the best but still up there.
Whether Mac Allister takes the penalties for us won’t come solely down to historic stats IMO, but also who shows to be better in training. Ali might even have a word in on it as well. TBF, the compilations have some pretty fucking sweet penalties taken by Mac Allister and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he convinces the coaches that he is the man for the job.
I think Salah will remain our main taker for now, but Mac might be a candidate (as Trent might and whoever else) to take over down the line, we’ll see.
There’s numbers and there’s also the way of taking them. Some of the ones Salah scored didn’t look great. Klopp said he would have a word after his Bournemouth miss, maybe more about the approach/way and since, he’s been going for less power and more control.
Salah even bloody admitted in that interview with Stevie that he changed his mind in the last second over his pen in Madrid. After a week of preparing a different penalty. When you look back at his body position in the moment of ball contact, it doesn’t look good. But hey, penalty scored and it’s all that matters. In a way yes, but for professionals making these calls and working with them players (although most of it is down to them), of course not.
Mac funnily reminds me of Gundo in a lot of actions, movements and the way he strikes a dead ball. I actually didn’t like Gundo’s approaches to the ball at penalties, but the penalties I’ve seen from Mac looked pretty convincing. Very clean strikes.
