Alexis Mac Allister (CM) Brighton & Hove Albion

Reminds me of Zeige when we bid £5,000,001 after we found out his release clause was £5m…somehow.

I’m on your side he doesn’t strike me with confidence and some of his pens were on the weak side but they still found the back of the net

What are they smoking at the Emirates?

Seriously, this is one incredible bit of business. Cue the complaints that he’s not cost enough or the money we saved NEEDS to be spent on “The Next Gerrard”

I wonder how much of the interest in Mount was a cover screen for this deal?

I get the feeling that a certain section of Liverpool Twitter would happier if he’d cost £70m

Or……this could explain it.

No question. Unless we win the transfer cup, we can’t win anything. I avoid twitter (except for certain non-football things), a can of worms I don’t need.

I don’t quite see it like that. Although we will never know how the negotiations with BHA went down last summer, for such a low release clause, I can only think Mac had told BHA that he was leaving this summer when his contract ended on a bosman. I don’t care what sort of form or what Mac had achieved up to the point of last summer, that’s regardless an extremely low release clause.

I can only think this is both side’s compromise to ensure BHA got something this summer. But to me Mac’s mind was made up and he therefore had all the power in the negotiations. BHA would have done anything to have better conditions in the contract but they couldn’t. Mac’s dad must be a really tough negotiator also. I wonder what that means for our contract…

Sort of makes me think when we managed to keep Suarez for an extra year.

Tbf Jorge didn’t need to do anything. It was a release clause.

I think it probably was genuine. We have two home-grown players leaving (Milner and Ox) so any decent home-grown player will be of interest at the right price.

I still think it’s cracking business to a) become aware of the clause seemingly no one else was aware existed and b) how quickly we got in there to conclude the deal before anyone could become aware.

Yup seen it already

If he did, that’s his prerogative. I suspect that he covered himself both ways with this deal - if he hadn’t been noticed at the world cup and no-one was interested he would still have secured himself a better deal. Obviously, Brighton have a few million that they wouldn’t have had so they aren’t out of pocket either. It seems to suit all parties.

Then surely his predecessor needs to be given the credit here? Has Jorg really identified the buyout clause in the 1 week that he’s been here? I find it hard to believe the idea of signing Mac is only 7 days old.

Look at those eyes. Maybe in his short time he used those eyes to intimidate Brighton into volunteering thst information to us.

Btw however we got the information about his release clause (I don’t think any method of getting that information is above board given the only people that should know about it are the player, the club and their agents), well played, as a dozen other clubs would have been chasing him if they know he could be had for this little.
It makes me think all the leaks about £60m,£65m and £70m was a deliberate ploy by LFC to keep other clubs away.
