Seen a lot of talk of him being finished and that its time for us to move on.

I disagree and think hes still the best LB in the country. All for getting a younger LB in for future proofing however. But kostas is a solid 2nd LB in the sqaud.

There arenā€™t really any top LBā€™s in the country. Iā€™d say Udogie or Ait Nouri are probably the best 2, Robinson is pretty handy too, and Robbo comes in 3rd or 4th. Showed some good signs when he came back from injury but heā€™s been mostly below par for the last year or 2, and Ipswich was another example.

Robbo invokes on Prima Nocta :grimacing:

Time to get a replacement scouted.

Hopefully will be a bargain just like Andy was.

Great player , but father time and all.

Heā€™s only 30 (his birthday is in March), but he has a lot of miles in those legs.

In general I think Robbo is twice the player Kostas is, but right now Kostas looks a better option. At least until Robbo can get himself fit (if that is the problem).

Longer term Iā€™d be looking at what to do with the position. I like the idea of selling Kostas, getting a potential first choice in, and keeping Robbo as back up. But wages might prohibit that, and Robbo himself might want to drop a level and keep playing.

Haha @Mascot

He had a below avg game, but lets not send him off to be abattoir just yet.

Saka got the better of him. Saka gets the better of most full backs.

As usual, we will see Kostas play in the next few days (suspect he starts Weds) and prob make some defensive mistakes and we will all crow at how great Robbo isā€¦albeit Kostas attacking deliveries have been excellent of late.

Longer term planning is required thoughā€¦ i like the look of Milos Kerkez

Heā€™s fine heā€™s had a couple of bad games they all have.

Yes we need to consider long term but others have to as well.

Heā€™s not been playing his best for football for a while, just like Trent. I donā€™t know if itā€™s tactics-related - in Robboā€™s case, Iā€™d say itā€™s got more to do with fatigue, the only minutes heā€™s missed since breaking into Liverpoolā€™s first team were the ones he wasnā€™t available for because he injured his shoulder.

It was bound to catch up with him eventually. I think he should give it a proper think - if he wasnā€™t playing so often for his country, I assume that his club form would suffer as much - but he wonā€™t, heā€™s a proper captain and heā€™ll give everything to both his club and his country. Iā€™m just afraid that heā€™ll suffer such a prolonged drop-off in form that neither will be even close to his best and that it will cost him the career at the top.

Was it him who referred to playing through an injury at the tail end of last season?

Yes. And he had an abbreviated pre-season after having to get over a niggle once they all returned

Robertsonā€™s part of our leadership group alongside VVD, TAA, Salah (contracts to resolve) and Alisson, and his contract runs out in 2026. Wonder how the club will approach it? Maybe offer him a one year extension? (If heā€™d take it).

I think the club would rather have him stick around with a new left-back, and Tsimikas departs. The issue would be the wages around Robertson, but his leadership and general off-field behaviour (from what the club has pumped out) would be a big miss. Weā€™ve no idea what will happen with VVD, TAA, or Salah, either. Then thereā€™s Alissonā€™s contract running out in 2027. Itā€™ll be interesting to see how we navigate the transition in leadership to the next generation.

I donā€™t think leadership is that important. If he cannot contribute on the pitch, just move on.

I think the burden of Internationals has taken a toll on Robbo as wellā€¦ Big responsibility being Captain of such a passionate footballing nation - I guess he has played for them as well, when not 100% fit to do so

Am I the only one who doesnā€™t think heā€™s been that bad? Odd people want to jump on him and remind us all how heā€™s been in decline for the last 2 years after getting done once and if Saka had blazed the shot high and wide, no one talks about itā€¦this summer probably will be the time to look to replace but there isnā€™t much he can do when his usual attacking game is almost being coached out of him to make up an extra man in defender. Heā€™s almost touch tight to Virg which I get, we donā€™t want to leave ourselves short at the back. Iā€™d much rather see Trent stay back and doing his thing from deep and using Robbo more to fly down the wings.

No, heā€™s played poor on occasions but no more than anyone else bar say Grav who seems to be turning in at least a 7 every game.
