Andy ROBERTSON: 2024/25

Neverton

It was 4000, I doubt it could be much lower. And that isn’t of interest to the Scottish FA or Robertson or his coach.

People bang on about rotation this season and yet in games that don’t matter too many wish to make excuses.

It’s pointless.

The thing is…
Robbo is unlikely to have a gruelling season ahead of him… and when he moves onto pastures new, it will probably be back home in Scotland… In being a Scot, the national team will mean a great deal to him… He will want to play for them until one of his legs falls off

Robbo’s been speaking to Sky Sports about his future during his charity event, the AR26 annual Captain’s Cup Golf Day fundraiser.

We have discussed. We’ve had good discussions, me and the club. But what the future holds I’m not sure

All I know is [on Friday] I fly off on holiday and it’s well needed, I need a rest after a long season. And then I look forward to pre-season. That’s all my focus is.

I can’t look too far ahead, I never have done and I’m not going to start now. I know the position I’m in, I’ve only got a year left and a lot is getting said but my pure focus is focusing on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids and then try to come back in the best shape possible for pre-season and see what the future holds when the decisions come.

Asked about the potential arrival of Kerkez and having to fight for his position, Robertson said:

At any big club you always have to keep moving. The club always moves forward. You’ve seen other big clubs like Man City be very active early doors in the window.

I know we’ve only got [Jeremie] Frimpong in the door so far but it looks like one or two are going to be close by what we can see on Sky Sports News.

Just now we’re at the top, we won the league and it’s important the club try to keep improving and finding ways to do that. They’ve identified positions where they want to get new blood in, the players we’re linked with are all younger players and exciting players as well.

When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect to have competition, I’ve always faced that and so has everyone in their own positions. We want the club to be ambitious, they’re doing that and wherever we fit into that, if you’re happy with the role you stay and do it and if you’re not then I’m sure there will be some people out the door as well. That’s the nature of football.

Assuming Kostas is sold, I’d expect Robbo to be offered a new contract, but it might not been until well into the next season. Not concerned though, can’t see him agitating to move, but can see him ending up at Celtic before his time is up. Certainly don’t see the club trying to garner a fee out of him (through offering him a longer deal to sell).
