He’s got a year left on his deal I believe. Don’t expect him to go this summer but would be very surprised if he gets another deal.
With a big occasion like yesterday and his mate leaving I’m not surprised to hear him talk like this. He knows his time to move on is coming soon and when it comes it’ll be a step down from days like this.
Probably the next big member of the Klopp era to move on and one who absolutely deserves the chance to say goodbye properly.
Problem I have with Robertson is he again played a full 90 minutes after that season in a friendly.
If it had been a World Cup qualifier fair enough but it’s a friendly it’s the chance to experiment. What knowledge is anyone gaining from playing Robertson for the full game he should have no gripe that we are looking to sign Kerkez.
He should have given up the international stuff last year, but I suppose he wants to keep that option open if he leaves next season. He’s probably still hoping that they are keeping his old job at Marks and Sparks open.
Yes he has to look after himself and doing so will make hitting 2nd more likely but possibly longer.
At his current rate he could be there in a year, but that’s not picking and choosing which games to play,it’s playing all of them. Take some games out and that becomes 18 months.
If his goal is to be most capped then looking after himself by playing less may mean it takes another 3-4 years at which point he’s 35.
In order to get there I can see him continue at this pace for the next year or two before looking at how he can reduce the strain/burden of his game, possibly by moving home to Celtic when his contract with Liverpool finishes.
Like I don’t mind him playing especially as most of the squad seemed to have a month off anyhow it’s the fact he plays a full 90 mins plus in a friendly. A sub appearance or being brought off after 60 mins needs to be considered or he won’t have the longevity to reach the record.
Anyhow 60 mins, some sense prevails, it’s not like there isn’t an obvious replacement in Josh Doig who plays his football in Sassualo, like I do understand the caps thing but he didn’t need to play 90 mins of a friendly in eithier. And considering one is 23 and one is 31 you’d think management would consider how the younger lad looks for his national side in games that matter less than a town council election.
Often the motivation of a small/average team playing a star player is not the result or points. Without Andy, the crowd would have been smaller and the resulting revenue loss would have been significant for a FA like Scotland.
