To be honest with you’ve I’ve always thought Anfield the area was a bit of a dive.
Yes the rows of derelict houses was bad but how was that the clubs fault?

Ah I had a feeling it may have been that.
With an array of vegetables and herbs growing in the garden - including cabbages, lettuce, carrots and tomatoes - it will provide a sustainable source of ingredients for the club’s chefs to use across its multiple sites and food stands as part of LFC’s The Red Way initiative.
I don’t like that constant use of the ‘Family’ word in the club’s PR, especially when it comes to commercial partners. This here is the latest example.
I wonder if this really appeals to a majority of fans. As far as I’m concerned, it rather puts me off when I see LFC, a multinational mega-money club, talking about ‘family’ all the time when announcing a commercial deal. Assume what you are instead of making things up ffs.
Normally I’d agree with you but I think this initiative is actually for families so the use of the word is appropriate in this case.
You realise Joie is focused on baby related products like pushchairs, prams, buggys, car seats etc.
So I think the Family element sits well with their brand.
They specifically have “Official Family Partner – Caring for Families Together” on their web site.
(not sure why it’s pulling through the German site though haha!)
I love this initiative. I always wondered why people don’t have vegetables/herbs or fruit-trees instead of ornamental plants.
@Hope.in.your.heart , like @BillyBiskix said, while it’s a bit creepy when corporates exploits the family theme; it’s OK if it’s used in right context. I think it’s a nice idea Mo taking a pumpkin home or lovely Rebecca picking a carrot or two. It creates a bond with the family who are otherwise not connected to Kirkby.
Yeah I get it, but still, Inglethorpe in one of his quotes:
“As a club, our strong family values are deep-rooted in our traditions (…)”
No sorry, I don’t think that LFC has peculiar ‘family values’ in it’s traditions, at least not more than any other club around the country. This is just a ‘brand’ thing from fsg. I don’t know why they always feel the need to ride on it. Maybe it appeals to US fans?
In that peculiar context, it’s understandable as you say. Taken in isolation, I wouldn’t bat an eye-lid when reading this. But added to the countless previous ‘family’ messages issued by the club, the underlying idea in this one is clear again: we are meant to be a big ‘family’. But for me at least, the word family means something completely different than being a football fan and supporting a club.
This is a weird take to me. Liverpool are acknowledged world wide as one of those special clubs. Maybe try and divorce what Liverpool is as a club and more than a club with the corporate entity that currently own us?
Ornamental gardens arose as an outward display of affluence. A well manicured lawn, with surrounding flower beds declares to the world that its owner is sufficiently wealthy not to need the land for the cultivation of crops.
Both is true.
Liverpool is renowned as a club that has long tried to cultivate the idea of a Liverpool family. That’s not on FSG, it’s not a brand thing, it’s authentic and long-standing.
Is such an ethos commercially valuable and capable of being monetised? Certainly. You may feel that FSG/the club are cynically tapping into it but I don’t think you can blame them. We’re trying to compete with clubs funded by petrostates, we need to maximise what makes us special and highlighting that family is at the centre of the club’s ethos and values is a big part of that.
Really? Has the LFC of old ever been more of a ‘family’ club than, say, Everton, Leeds, Newcastle or others?
I’m happy to be educated on that subject, but I can only recall one single quote from Shankly where he explicitly refers to LFC as a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say ‘We’re Liverpool’. I don’t remember having ever heard Paisley, Fagan or Dalglish first term having said that word. Houillier, Rafa? Not that I recall. The word ‘family’ came up massively when fsg bought the club.
To me, this has the smack of a PR theme, built on the finest of grounds (that Shankly quote) by some marketing guys, that is all.
Does it matter how often a catchphrase is used? We live it as a club.
You have read our post-match threads, yeah?
I think most clubs and organisations now refer to the fan base / customers as family.
It’s PR bit hey I do sort of view the LFC world as the family.
I’d say the club, the players and the fans have always been as one and classed as a family, long before FSG came into the club.
If FSG are using it as PR to boost the clubs financial status to make us compete, then i think it’s ok,i’d much rather them try making money off the back of a truth and play fairly, than be sports washing sheikhs and dodgy Oligarch cunts, trying to cheat their way into winning and lying about money.
Oh yeah, fsg >>> oil cheiks and oligarch ©°~†ß, no doubt about that.
FSG out because they referred to us as Family.
I never said that, don’t be silly.
