Liverpool Football Club can confirm George Sephton, affectionately known as ā€˜The Voice of Anfield’, will step down at the end of the season after more than five decades as stadium announcer.

He will make his final matchday appearance on Sunday when the Reds host Crystal Palace and lift the Premier League trophy at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign finale.

Since taking his place in the Anfield gantry in 1971, George’s iconic voice has become a beloved and integral part of the matchday experience for generations of Liverpool supporters.

From announcing the teams to playing the perfect track to match the mood, his presence has been a constant.

Speaking to Liverpool fc. com about stepping down, George said: "It’s been the honour of a lifetime to be known as ā€˜The Voice of Anfield’.

"I’ve been privileged to have a front-row seat at some of the greatest occasions in football history – memories I will cherish forever.

ā€œAnfield has been my second home for over 50 years, and I’ve loved every moment. But the time is right to pass the microphone on.ā€

Paul Cuttill, vice president of stadium operations at LFC, added: "George Sephton is more than just a stadium announcer – he is a part of the fabric of Anfield.

ā€œHis voice has soundtracked countless unforgettable moments in our club’s history, and his presence in the gantry will be deeply missed. We thank him for his remarkable tenure and dedication to the club.ā€

Has he been told that leaving the club without a transfer fee means he needs to get booed?

That’s Arne’s fault.

Billy Joel’s concers at Anfield have been cancelled due to ill health:

I hope he recovers, I’ve always enjoyed a bit of Billy’s music.

This is so sad.

People like him and Stephen Done… I’d probably rather meet them than any of the players or managers.

Bloody excited with Wirtz coming in, but then in the same day I saw that George would be leaving.

It’s like when we signed Carroll after signing Suarez!

:joy: :sob:

The club applied for planning permission to make some changes/refurbish to the store. It opened in 2017 when the main stand did, albeit doesn’t look tired or anything!

I just saw this…

Knowing how much Lego sets cost, it would probably end up costing more than a season ticket. It would be very cool, though.
