Obviously one of the two issues is a massive violation of human rights.
The other, well, it’s different, and a lot more complicated. The cause is worthy. I question the tactics of the protestors.
I’m not sure who they are talking to. The public? The UK government? Big oil executives? Other countries who are much bigger polluters, as they build their economies using the power sources we built our economy on?
I’m not sure on the goal, either. Stop oil? As in completely stop it’s use? Globally?
It won’t happen. Or at least, it won’t happen until the market dictates that, which is to say when there’s enough energy, from alternate sources, at the right price, to move to alternate energy en masse.
Obviously there is movement in that direction, which is a good thing, and I hope it accelerates, with a societal movement towards reducing consumption too.
With all that said, I do struggle to see how some divvy on a snooker table is moving the dial.
I think it’s obvious to happen eventually. The resource isn’t infinite and even Saudi Arabia royal family recognise it.
Doing it during PL matches makes a fair bit of sense as other places.
Snooker is an odd one, however goes to show you can get tickets if you want
As someone who worked in campaigning for a while these campaigns are too self centred, the National was actually a far better one as there is no specific ringleader but this bellend is getting all the news now.
The most effective form of protest would be to find a billionaire who will fund the lining of the pockets of politicians, the same way the oil companies do right now. Pretty hard to find though since most of them have huge investments in the oil industry.
Maybe Klopptimist will be up for it after he puts $6m on that 1000/1 bet.
Well the guy at Forest Green probably has achieved more than this lot. He got the football world talking about his team which is dwarfed by some Conference north and south clubs.
Lobbying is your most effective form of protest and it doesn’t require money, it requires buy in and campaigning but it can work.
I was involved in city of sanctuary stuff on refugees in Cardiff and that’s probably up there with climate on buy perhaps even less likely.
You or I could fluke a goal in a World Cup final. We could fluke a home run. I’ve fluked a hattrick in cricket. I’ve hit the pin a few times from the tee in golf. But you can’t fluke 147. Think we’ve had this before. A century at Lords against Australia maybe. There’s the perfect game in bowling, 501 in darts etc but I stand by 147 being the greatest test of skill in sport. Apart from anything else, it rarely depends on the opponent. It’s you against the game.
we both have the physical ability to score a 147 too. with enough practice, anything is possible. But if you doubt yourself, you never will.
Haven’t you ever cleared a table off the break playing billiards recreationally? it’s just a matter of honing that skill. Like I said, 187 people have scored a 147.
I reckon it’s must more difficult to run a sub-10 second 100M than it is to run a maximum in snooker. the conditions to do that feat are at the extreme limit of our physical abilities, and the window of time in a person’s life to perform at that level is probably less than 10years.
