Arne Slot - Former Head Coach (Part 2)

And yet he rarely faced low blocks and has no experience playing in Europe every 3 days.

He is a gamble just like anyone else.

Slot just did not embrace the fans and use us to his own advantage… not only are we an asset when the team are on the pitch… but if he listened to what we want for LFC, not just to win, but to win in a manner that is above everyone else… yet most importantly, if he had us watching his back, there is no way Edwards or Hughes could continue to pull his strings whether he was manager or coach…
My belief is that winning the PL at first attempt was remarkable. Where I think he let himself down, was that an arrogance took over at some point and he failed to read the room on a consistent basis…
My take now, no matter who comes in, we can’t be in a worst state going into next season than if we had held onto Slot.

So the right decision has been made. The one we all wanted but worried might not come.

A week of people hand wringing, moaning about the club not saying anything, questioning the judgement of Edwards and Hughes and the commitment of FSG.

And yet here we are, a little patience later and here we are looking like Iraola will be our next coach and it was quite predictable really, could see it coming a mile off.

Sad the way it ended this way for Slot. A great first season and a very challenging second but looks like the job got too big for him. Wish him well, don’t see the need to revel in his departure or stick the boot in. The bloke tried his best and came up short. Wasn’t the first, won’t be the last but very few leave with a PL medal in their pocket.

I also don’t understand this. Unless somehow they rate Iraiola higher than Alonso

This is what surprised me. I have for a few months thought it would happen but sold as a mutual parting of ways.

Well done FSG very tidy. But really fcken late.

It’s a pipe dream that we get anyone other than Iraola here. Enrique isnt coming here to have to rebuild his entire squad. FSG have a tough call, to risk another unproven manager at top-level, it having distinctly not worked under Slot. Is the only doubt I have that they will plum for it again.

Wonder how Konate feels today. Has he just also been peacefully dislodged with aplomb?

Glad his family finally gets to see what Liverpool looks like. :see_no_evil_monkey:

My problem with Slot was he won the Dutch league. You’re telling me he never faced a low block before?

He talked about low blocks as if they’re an alien concept that just suddenly landed in front of him. A very defeatist attitude and it transferred into the team.

ā€œOh well, the gaffer said a low blocks tough so I guess we won’t be able to go past themā€

I think that arrogance might have seeped through the whole club. I’ve used the term ā€˜high on the smell of their own farts’ to describe the pair of them - Hughes and Slot. In hindsight, there was just a lot of ā€˜We’re brilliant, we can make this work’ about them, especially the forwards. We lost Jota, Nunez and Diaz from the front line, and with it our pressing capacity. Replaced it with a front line that couldn’t press a flower.

I agree I said as much in the post you quoted.

Or Iraola was the plan all along?

Oh well we don’t have to worry about Slot anymore he’s gone today.

Gave fans their best day in Anfield for thirty five years. That is being forgotten very quickly.

Is Leverkusen within commuting distance of Rotterdam?

Maybe not. I think he might want to be closer to home.
