Think about the MAGNITUDE of the fall since last season. After inheriting PL title challenge-ready squad Slot made a few tweaks to freshen things up…but I still contend that the squad did it mostly on autopilot. The thing that probably helped was the reduced training load but Slot failed to have the foresight to see what that would do to the team in the longer run.
Then on top of that Hughes absolutely obliterates our transfer records for players who can’t stay on the pitch for more than 5 minutes. And in their infinite wisdom, get rid of our most potent mobile forward without a replacement. We know now that Slot had a say in the transfers so he is equally culpable here.
So, he takes this primed squad, messes up their fitness work, then (with Hughes) wrecks the front line, buys wholly unsuitable players for fullback positions, and we let Kelleher go for another downgrade (think we can say this safely now) in Mama.
And the biggest transgressions his tactics are completely unsuited for this league.
Completely disregarding the lessons learned about getting high quality players in small numbers and slowly introducing them to the team.
Compare that with Hodgson. Who got the worst version of Rafa’s squad thanks to those bloodsuckers Hicks and Gillette. Of course he did piss poor job. But no manager could have done much with that squad.
Apologies, took a screenshot of the fecking screen my Firestick showed me immediately after the game and thought I’d share it but phone is messing up the upload.
Regardless, when we’re talking about players only able to play for a few minutes at a time do we really not think that proper training sessions would increase their ability to play? Jesus Christ Isak still looks scared to run when he plays.
My back has been fucked since 2007 and even I wouldn’t be that worried about him in a sprint if he continued at this season’s pace (pun not intended). I honestly can’t remember seeing a group of people playing at any level with such all round poor fitness levels.
Klopp used to go on and on about training the players we already have to improve not only individually but as a whole team, a fighting unit. He was always against big single transfer window splurges. FSG and Edwards was there for that ride.
I’m just junking what Billy Hogan and Edwards make of this completely opposing way of deconstructing/reconstructing and running (well, we don’t run do we? We walk) the team. I mean the results are there for everyone to see.
Fuck me, Hughes and Edwards are fucked. They probably just realised that Slot was fucking lying to them about continuity. They actually hired an Amorim…
At this point I’d trade a year of no Champions League footy to see the back of this insipid spineless team. And if we’re letting Alisson leave, might as well not bother with any more offers to Konate, either.
See where you are coming from, but I think a lot of this is down to the”head coach”,showing himself to be clueless.
Give most the lads a season under a decent coach/ manager and they might come up just fine, felt all along that Slot was likely the problem, can’t use players properly with a result that they turn off.
If we are talking finance and overall cost implications, I think it’s an amazing decision to keep him to prove himself in his 3rd year, and not pay his severance.
You know, almost as brilliant a move as ending Salah’s contract early and not receiving a transfer fee.
Slot used the “Europa League” stigma against Kloppo’s Liverpool several times this year. Sometimes I wonder if, god forbid, that we need to miss out on UCL next season to jolt the hierarchy to wake up and make Slot eating his own words, then fire him.
Ad nauseam, like several on here, and I have said a few times already, I can find better things to do and get entertained than watching such horrible football.. I have done it before and stopped watching ice hockey (which I absolutely loved for a very long time) and baseball (baseball: 162 games a season, almost every game was shown on TV, and each game lasted 3 to 4 hours!) due to lockout/player strikes in North America. I found that the time could be spent elsewhere with more enjoyment and have not looked back since.
One of the many things that I worry about our club is that our turgid football under Slot, we will no longer attract a new generation of fans/supporters, and current supporters are also losing faith, and we returned to the barren period. Not only I cannot see Slot turn this horrible form around, I am very worried that we may even be in the bottom half of the league table for most, if not all, of next season. Slot needs to go for the future health of LFC.
At this point I’d actually think doing so would provide a mental lift to everyone around the club and be more likely to secure a result against Brentford to guarantee the CL football the owners want.
Recent results meanwhile show under Slot we’re just going to sleepwalk to another set of dropped points. I can’t see any real argument for keeping him being the best option.
