Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

You could go back in time to the end of 2014/15, replace the word “Slot” with “Rodgers” and it wouldn’t look out of place. If that’s not enough for the powers that be at the club to act, I don’t know what is.

I can’t fathom the scenario in which all the good coaches get tied down on lengthy contracts this summer and Slot gets fired in October when we’re in the bottom half of the table. What does the club’s hierarchy do then?

If he is staying, I hope we see some quick announcements on the coaching staff changes and some incoming transfers.

On the day Arsenal became winners of the 25/26 PL title… it is a sad reflection that we, as last years Champions didn’t even put up a proper fight or a scrap in any way shape or form to to retain it…
Shame on you Slot…

The days of Parry going off on his own holidays the day after season ended

In a season full of new lows and embarrassments that would be another one.

Why wait? Checking if anyone is available? Now?

We can not waste time in preparation for next season. Decision has to be communicated next week.

A big factor behind that was the mess with the transfers, the club felt that their recruitment side had made such a balls up when Suarez left that Brendan should be given another go.

It’s possible that that same scenario is playing out here too as we don’t fully know yet the ins and outs of the deals last summer and who was the driving force behind the decisions. While it is likely that Arne was a key part of them (having just won the league, you would assume his voice would carry weight and the fact our business the previous window appeared to be influenced by him) we just can’t be 100% certain that is was the case.

I’m not saying that the players club brought in last summer won’t flop as hard as Marković or Balotelli but there must not be one person at the club who can look at this squad and think “yeah, we didn’t back Slot enough, let’s buy some more players of his liking, so he can make it work”.

Klopp played Klopp football with the squad that had modern luminaries of football such as Lovren, Moreno and Allen. It didn’t always work but you got the idea of what he wanted to do. I’m not getting that vibe with Slot - it’s been a while since I could tell you what kind of football he wanted this team to play.

Just want to agree with what Limie is saying above, and I hope Slot is announced before the last game. A classy statement to thank him for the title, a mutual consent sort of thing. It puts a completely different complexion on the day.

That way any unrest by the fans is put to bed, Slot can be thanked - he deserves it, and even if for some it might be through gritted teeth at this stage, they should be able to be magnanimous in the context.

Legends can get their send off, and the team can focus on making sure it doesn’t spew a massive advantage to qualify for the CL.

Hoeness or Iraola to be finalized quickly, and we look ahead to next season with renewed hope, or at least a lot less negativity.

Unfortunately, that won’t happen. Everything points to him starting next season as Liverpool head coach, that is, of course, unless he somehow manages to blow a +6 goal differential in the last match of the season.

I totally agree, I’m just throwing it out there as a reason why they may be persisting with Arne for another season. If he pushed against the sale of players such as Diaz for example, or asked for other players to be signed to cover weaknesses that have been further exposed this season I can see why they may have his back.

Its hard to ger behind that one, and it could be a complete defence to his sacking, and might be reason why we outwardly keep perceiving dissonance, when internally there isnt any.

This article by Lynch is depressing as shite!
It’s insane to keep a manager with his systems that are not working, and continue to throw money to try to fix the “problem” with more players, and soon, the higher ups realised that we need to replace the head coach/manager, with a bunch of players that the new head coach/manager doesn’t really want. We are turning into fucking Mancs of the recent years.

Just on the timing aspect, it’s perhaps worth noting that the bookies’ favourite, Enrique, has a CL final coming up a week after the final league games and would be unlikely to countenance any consideration of his future until after that has happened.

I don’t think the owners are ballsy enough to sack their manager before they’ve even had a chance to speak to their first choice to take over. Of course, that’s assuming the bookies are correct and Enrique is the favourite.

Just putting it out there so if/when Slot isn’t sacked after the Brentford game it doesn’t automatically follow that he’ll still be in the job come August.

I posted earlier with an article that indicated PSG has tied Enrique down with a 3 year extension.

Ok, didn’t see that. Still until anything is officially announced it remains a possibility.

The ego maniacs in charge would still back him.

We played coherent effective pressing football with tug boats like Can and Lucas in midfield. It was so obvious how mismatched much of the squad was to the football Klopp wanted us to play and yet we played it and looked good doing it. It was obvious we needed new personnel to do it but the clear identity and vision meant it was pretty easy to see where the new pieces needed to be added and confidence for improvement if we brought in the right pieces.

There is not a single signing we could announced on Monday that would make me think it would make a positive difference given the way things have gone wrong this year. There is no single point of failure you could point to and confidently say “add a new player here and we’ll be better”, especially as we’re not going to sign anyone with near as much “fucking yes” power as when we signed Wirtz, and that didnt work.

It’s beyond ridiculous now. We’ve been a mid-table team for more than 60% of his time in charge. What more does he have to do for them to consider that he isn’t the right guy? What data is there that mitigates his issues and justifies his staying on? By stubbornly holding on to him against all evidence and logic, they are risking 10 years of progress.

I never thought that this regime would end up with its head so far up its ass, it would forget all the lessons that brought us to the top.

The biggest indictment of Slot for me is not the abject performances, total failure to incorporate a style or the fact every player looks worse under him than they did before.

No, the biggest issue is that he has created zero emotional connection with the fans. He’s bred apathy.

In some ways I’m interested to see what would happen if the club genuinely refute all the outside pressure and stick with him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a manager so unpopular not lose his job. I suspect tickets may be a little easier to come by in 2026/27 and that is probably what will do for him in the end.
