Alright, 4 jammy set pieces goals.
I dont see him being âlambastedâ for this. I see people questioning the likelihood of this turning it around, and what it says about Slot given what his answers seem to be about what is needed for that turn around to happen - new coaches and new players. This is all IMO very reasonable lines of questioning and avenues for skepticism
The mood at Anfield tomorrow will depend on what happens in the first half of this match and the Bournemouth one.
If we are down with a 2 goals margin in Anfield while Bournemouth is up with a 2 goal margin, things could get pretty twitchy at half-time and the second half in the crowd.
Reijnen holds the role of âVideo Analyst & Adviser Technical Staffâ. Just purely on the title, it seems to be his main job is to review the videos of the matches played and advice the head coach. They probably wouldnât give such a title to merely the set-piece coach, right?
If RVP had to seek another opinion while the results were shaky, it is highly likely that at best, Reijnenâs advice was not working as it should. At worse, the analysis and advice given was so bad that RVP donât really trust Reijnenâs opinions and needed another more experienced voice to get tactical and strategic advice from.
It also has to be noted while RVP is very complimentary of Reijnenâs job openly, there wasnât any visible attempt by anyone in Feyenoord to get Reijnen to stay. Feyenoord seems to be more than happy to let him go. That says a lot.
Anyway, in our team now, we have Jansen Moreno, Roderick van der Ham,Lewis Mahoney and Joel Bonner to do all that analysis. So we are probably removing a coach and adding another Analyst whose only coaching experience was in Set-pieces in a league where the best teams in that league falter hard in the UCL and UEL? That sounds recklessâŚ
Itâs like Slot thinks that his problem is largely in analysis, poor set-pieces and poor players while ignoring the poor movement in open play, the poor fitness in the squad, the poor pressing shape, the poor defensive shape OOP?
No, but this is the path that most dedicated set piece coaches came from and so it is totally normally for the analyst to be responsible for set piece coaching. Reijnen role as described is also very similar to how Krawietzâs role was described. What is interesting about us going back to him after initially failing to get him 2 years ago, is that analysis - knowing what another team was going to do and solving for it - was a big strength of our title win. Slotâs team was able to do that in the absence of the guy who had been putting those analyses together for him in the past. Other than a personal crutch, which shouldnt be dismissed, its not clear what specific gap this would be filling. Of course last yearâs success was achieved with Aaron Briggs on board doing the role he was hired to do. Maybe the reassignment of him and then subsequent loss created a gap in our analysis and game planning and that was a big part in our drop off this year that this guy will be filling.
Maybe. But I dont see that as being related to the sheer incoherance of our open field football.
Thanks for enlightening me on the Path of the set-piece coaches.
We had 4 analyst in the club but even without the detailed analysis, everyone could see it wasnât working. Like what you said, without that Reijnen, the club managed to win the title at the canter last season with a strong analyst team.
I think similarly to your viewpoint as I too find it very disturbing that 1 guy being re-assigned from his old job and then fucking it up can cause the near collapse of our season and style of play.
This place has become so interesting that I genuinely dont know if you mean âfuck youâ or âthat was an interesting responseâ
I cannot say a âfuck youâ to someone who is more learned in the game compared to me and is willing to share his knowledge. I did learn something new today! Thank you.
See, still not sure ![]()

Psychotherapists would have a field day @limie!
Itâs a bit like when my wife says, âSure.â
It might mean yes.
It might mean no.
It might mean fuck off.
It might mean over my dead body.
It might mean you better not.
It might mean maybe.
Etc.
Iâm a simple bloke and itâs all a bit complicated for me!
âIf you wantâ - the 3 most terrifying words in the english language.
Should we keep Slot?
Sure.
âŚfollowed closely by⌠" If You Say SoâŚ"
Nothing can top the existential horror of the âso what do you think?â where you already know, no matter what the next words to leave your lips are, youâre already fucked.

If you wantâŚ
Stage of acceptance that Slot is staying (oh lord!)?
As long as we play attacking and attractive football, I will be more than happy to eat the humble pies, and Slot and co would then have certainly show that they have the mustard. However, he has left me such a poor impression, I am just so annoyed by his gaslighting that I will continue to stay away from his press conferences.
I donât know Slot just never comes across well to me. I may have entered a blinkered headspace with regards to him but even just the way he manages to slightly take the focus off Robbo and Salah here by saying âthe coaches have worked incredibly hard to put you in a position to succeedâ. Thatâs supposed to be a celebration of the players not you and your staff, what are you talking about?
Also hard not to notice the decidedly cold body language from both players.
âŚâin the end it always has to be the players that make the difference, that make the great storiesâŚâ And the two of you have done that "âŚ
Yeah so just say that.
As I have said, everything he does is being used as a stick to beat him with, when ther better managers/coaches have done exactly the same.
It is the constant pile on and scrutinising that I donât like.
Also, I have clearly stated the reasons why we shouldnât carry on with Arne, which are mainly tactical, although I also feel his message is too negative and is reactive rather than pro active.
