Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

I don’t think Slot is a bad person, he just doesn’t get Liverpool, the city, the people, the fan culture here. He only spends as much time that is needed here, the rest of the time is in Holland.

He has run out of tactical ideas and he doesn’t have tactical nous or man-management skills like Klopp and other previous Liverpool managers.

Not so glorious, then?

Apparently not.

For me, yesterday was the match that really pushed me to the point of disliking him.

Salah was the only threat on the pitch where his dutch boys were struggling in the mud and he decided to take him off so early for another dutch pace merchant that got nullified so easily.

His refusal to acknowledge the fans and offer his contrite apology after the match coupled with the post match conference blaming injuries for this season’s poor performance despite being called out by Salah and Jones for falling standards was the last straw for me…

In fairness, Mo and Robbo’s substitutions will have been planned in advance to give them a send-off.

I just get the impression he saw something shiny, has gone for it but can’t make it work, but is stubbornly carrying on regardless thinking that everything is fine.

Some truly “spooky” stats—I’ll just leave these right here.

Here’s Phil McNulty’s preseason prediction on the BBC

5th: Liverpool

Prediction: champions

Where do you even start? This was a desperate campaign after strolling to the title last season in Arne Slot’s first campaign in succession to Jurgen Klopp.

The context should be provided by the tragedy of beloved forward Diogo Jota’s death in July. Perfectly understandably, only those inside Anfield will feel and know its full impact.

No-one, however, expected the season to end with fans turning on Slot.

Liverpool splashed out £450m last summer to make the team worse, while few could have predicted Mohamed Salah’s form falling off a cliff and turning into public acrimony with Slot.

So will Slot be around to oversee a recovery?

What I said in August:

“It’s hard to see past Liverpool as this season’s Premier League champions. This is a prediction made with complete confidence.”

Yet Robbo had a trusted understudy in Kerkez and got substituted later at the 83rd minute while Salah who had no trusted understudy and still got substituted earlier at 74th Minute with the team struggling to make any head ways offensively…

It just didn’t make sense if it is pre-planned that way…

Yes, it would have made more sense the other way around.

It will only make sense if the substitution is made out of spite and to deny Salah from another goal contribution…

And, Mo in particular has only just returned from injury.

I would tend to agree that he is stubbornly carrying on regardless, but disagree that he is thinking everything is fine.

I think he should go.

I also hope that if he stays and we start well in August/September that we as a collective don’t death ride him hoping he fails.

Seeing this clip, it seems Slot doesn’t want to be there either.

You know what’s going to happen if he did that?

“Oh so shameless to try to get the fans applause after such a season.”

“Oh so shameless trying to steal the limelight from the players”

But Mo looks more up for it compared to everyone bar Robbo despite going for the World Cup in the summer?

He’s damned either way now.

He spoke at the training ground and people moaned about what he said.

He rightly leaves the post match stuff to be about Mo and Robbo and people moan he sits out the way and didn’t speak.

People moan every time he opens his mouth but now he should have given some rousing speech about next season being better.

He takes Mo off to give him his moment and people moan about us losing our threat down the right.

I’m surprised he’s not be blamed for the kit nonsense yesterday.

He knows it’s been shite. He probably knows anything but a flying start next season sees him sacked and that’s only if he’s not sacked before hand or already knows he’s going.

Whatever he’d done at the end of yesterday would have been the wrong thing in someone’s eyes. Too visible and he’s trying to make it about him. Sit away and let them have their moment and he’s disinterested. Speak to the ground and be told he’s said the wrong thing, lambasted for assuming he’ll still have the job or detracting from the goodbyes.

I think there’s far too much over analysing going on. Everyone knows that wasn’t good enough so we don’t need to keep pouring over ever tiny detail to find new things to beat him with, there’s plenty enough on the pitch and in pressers we can use for that.

If he goes round a lap with his palms pressed together which is universal sign for apology, not much people will be that critical.

But he didn’t…He slunked back to his seat and then in the post match conference, he blamed injuries for the poor season like as if no one else had injuries issues this season…

That is what pisses off a lot of fans.

there is an element of truth in that, but its not as big as many would have you believe…

couple of throwaway lines on a forum shouldnt register…

he should have left Mo on until somewhere in the 80th minute, but no biggie, it is what it is…

he should have walked around the stadium to show his appreciation, regardless of anyplayers last game…that kinda is a big deal…
