Arne Slot - Head Coach (Part 2)

This might be from one of the worse United managers in history but at least he had the cojones to own the mistakes and apologise for that piss poor season of theirs. It might be performative but at least he bothered to speak up.

As you said, ours didn’t even bothered to show appreciation to the fans in Anfield…

This is how I imagine the pep talks are like

That’s fair. My point is that I’m not convinced we’re seeing anything different in an effort to change things. We appear stuck.

Maybe his “injury” comment was indicating that he thinks things will go well if our injury situation improves. Well, he’s not wrong, but his job is to manage around that kind of adversity.

I think he has been told that his contract isn’t being extended and that he has given up. I can’t really explain the last couple of months unless he thinks he’s on his way.

I’m sure that he’ll be here next season. The club see that he has 1 year left and in 2 seasons we’ve had CL qualification both times and a league title. I can’t see them paying up the last year of his contract as he seems to them a safe bet for CL qualification. Owners dont think like fans. I’d have fucked him off with respect and best wishes months ago, as would many. We are generally a patient club and fan base, but we can all clearly see he isn’t turning this around!

The concern that everyone should have is what this season revealed of Slot. People who are good in the good times are not necessarily the same people who are good in the bad times. There is nothing we’ve seen from the way he handled this year’s challenges that suggests he’d be better for it if we hit another bad run of results next season or he suffers a couple of key injuries. These are things that even well run sides will inevitably have to go through and even if he stays and starts well next year, that will still be there hanging over us. Maybe some people don’t care about but I do because of how quickly things can spiral in football. You can dig a hole for yourself as a football club far easier and quicker than you can get yourself out of one.

The big concern I have is that culture is totally gone. Even some of the things some of the players have said have hinted at a dressing room that isnt what it was. And not just regarding the standards, but about the development of cliques. These guys are never going to all be best friends, but some of the things that have been said paint a picture of a group that isnt well positioned to come together to fight through the adversity that is going to present itself at some point in every season. I worry that the culture has to be rebuilt and I dont think you can ever effectively do that with the guy in charge who oversaw its erosion in the first place.

This.

Also, as I mentioned in the post match thread, we are losing another two captains of their respective countries. I am very concerned about the leadership void within.

Didn’t Slot “disbanded” the leadership group that was set up previously, and Slot himself appointed Robbo as vice-captain, rather than selected by the players with the blessing of the manager?

The system that Kloppo used allows the players formed a closer bond. As Robbo said in one of his interviews, he was often on the bench this year, and did not feel like he could help or influence as much. I am sure that other senior players picked up some of the leadership role, but without the original system, it could become too many cooks in the kitchen.

That’s probably another thing some people would accuse me of using it as a stick to beat Slot with.

No-one even acknowledged him either, don’t know if that’s telling…

I dont think that is entirely a bad thing given the way the season has gone, especially with the performances of the two leaders who are leaving. Group dynamics are really weird things and someone who was a positive influence in one context is often less so as the group, and their role in it, changes. When you have done the work to develop a good culture you want to make sure that you pay attention to how to maintain that during the natural evolution of personnel that will have to happen. But once its eroded the connections to the past, to “the right way”, can often become unhelpful. If you need to rebuild that you often need to create space for the newer guys to create something that is theirs.

Even AI knows he will be making excuses

AI can only generate content from what already exists. So blame this on those who just want to use any stick to beat slot who created this biased training content

Finished closer to relegated West Ham than Arsenal

I just checked in here to see if anything has happened. I forgot it is a bank holiday in the UK. Same here, Memorial Day, long weekend.

I think the owners and top executives can work if needed, but if anything is going to change there will be a lot of paperwork, legal and PR stuff, dragging many people into it, so it is very unlikely to see something happen today.

If we don’t have another manager lined up then that work will be ongoing too, though you would have thought if it is either Iraola or Hoeness, we would be decisive in recruiting them and it would be swift.

All that is to say if it’s happening, it will surely happen this week. If not, he is definitely staying until next season. One important indicator I’m looking at is if there is news of Etienne Reijnen joining Slot’s staff. There was lots of news in the last few days that we were looking, but if nothing is confirmed that’s telling me Slot’s Liverpool future is still up in the air.

That was the most bizarre end to a final game that I can remember. Not because of Salah and Robertson leaving, but there was Van Dijk sitting all alone in the middle of the pitch, Jones looking despondent after scoring, Slot almost hiding in his seat. It all felt so awkward and uncomfortable.

There were a lot of people who looked like they’d prefer being anywhere else but there.

This second paragraph is the root of it. Seeing Virgil sat alone got me thinking along very similar lines, slowly clearing out the Klopp loyals, whom cant understand his system. Here is where there is disconnect with established players and new signings in terms of accepting Slots ‘philosophy’. If we see Curtis and Allison leave this summer, Virgil will be stranded alone, just like yesterday. This is what most of us are saddened about, as with most Empires that crumbled. We’ve lost so much and gaining virtually nothing.

Unless FSG are magicians, and they’ve posited a 3yr rebuild, and are using Slot for that, before next summer, then swooping for something far more credible and impressive. Right now it looks like FSG are treading water.

Yep. Way too many different ‘agendas’ unfolding - farewells for legends, the game itself, CL qualification, and the elephant in the room which is Slot.

The lack of clarity about Slot’s future cast a shadow over the final day. In the end none of it was quite right on the day, because none of it could be fully felt - celebration or protest, and everything in between, due to the uncertainty. Everyone did their best, but it was a strange day.

No one understands his structure and the fact that both old and new guys liked Salah’s post doesn’t suggest a clearing of the old guard to make his team complete it suggests people generally think what he is asking is rubbish and they want a change.

It’s where someone has to step in, whether that be Edwards or higher in Werner or Henry. If Gordon is still mates with Henry it’s hopefully someone who has given a fan view to his mate.

Alonso gone. Odd to me. Maybe there is a plan.

To be honest, fickle as we are, we’re better than that. We want Liverpool to succeed, and if Slot delivers success we will be happy. No honest supporter wants next season to be a failure, to prove our current view correct.
If Arne Slot is manager in August, I will look forward to the new season with the same hopes and dreams as always. I won’t want him to fail, but it will be a surprise if he can make this better.

And if he is successful next year I will celebrate like fuck, and won’t feel a morsel of guilt for how I feel about him today. There are thousands of "Arteta out " fans celebrating Arsenal winning the league at the moment, as they should.
I want Cody sold in the summer but will love if he scores for us in next years CL final.

Above everything, its Liverpool. And I genuinely know what you mean, but I think we will support effort and improvements
