I’m sure that he’ll be here next season. The club see that he has 1 year left and in 2 seasons we’ve had CL qualification both times and a league title. I can’t see them paying up the last year of his contract as he seems to them a safe bet for CL qualification. Owners dont think like fans. I’d have fucked him off with respect and best wishes months ago, as would many. We are generally a patient club and fan base, but we can all clearly see he isn’t turning this around!

Our PPG after that 5 game winning streak that consisted of some sensational last minute goals was so low that extrapolated to a 38 games season will see us net 51 to 52 points…In most seasons, that will be a season of no European football at all…

Is FSG willing to risk that, forcing them to a lower sale valuation if the club has no European football and a non-elite head coach?

The big concern I have is that culture is totally gone. Even some of the things some of the players have said have hinted at a dressing room that isnt what it was. And not just regarding the standards, but about the development of cliques. These guys are never going to all be best friends, but some of the things that have been said paint a picture of a group that isnt well positioned to come together to fight through the adversity that is going to present itself at some point in every season. I worry that the culture has to be rebuilt and I dont think you can ever effectively do that with the guy in charge who oversaw its erosion in the first place.

Well, it is a risk that FSG needs to take. Time will only tell if the risk is worth it by saving a few millions bucks by sacking Slot now Vs letting his contract expire naturally.

I just checked in here to see if anything has happened. I forgot it is a bank holiday in the UK. Same here, Memorial Day, long weekend.

I think the owners and top executives can work if needed, but if anything is going to change there will be a lot of paperwork, legal and PR stuff, dragging many people into it, so it is very unlikely to see something happen today.

If we don’t have another manager lined up then that work will be ongoing too, though you would have thought if it is either Iraola or Hoeness, we would be decisive in recruiting them and it would be swift.

All that is to say if it’s happening, it will surely happen this week. If not, he is definitely staying until next season. One important indicator I’m looking at is if there is news of Etienne Reijnen joining Slot’s staff. There was lots of news in the last few days that we were looking, but if nothing is confirmed that’s telling me Slot’s Liverpool future is still up in the air.

Well, the earliest the season review can start is probably tomorrow or wednesday. The panel might consist of Bill Hogan, Tom Werner, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards and Mike Gordon. I would think that somewhere in Feb or Mar, Slot would be on a PIP.

The season review would be to see if Slot has hit the KPI on the PIP. The results of the PIP will decide the vote of Slot’s fate.

Injuries can definitely derail a season. To win a title you have to be lucky on that front.

However, I expect the coach to work with what he has. We still have 11 very capable players for every game. We aren’t finishing with our 5th and 6th choice centre backs with their heads held together with gaffer tape.

The word I would use is omnishambles.

You know what can derail a season even more?

• lack of individual and team fitness
• lack of application and belief
• a system that is unfit for the league
• a system that the players don’t buy into

That was the most bizarre end to a final game that I can remember. Not because of Salah and Robertson leaving, but there was Van Dijk sitting all alone in the middle of the pitch, Jones looking despondent after scoring, Slot almost hiding in his seat. It all felt so awkward and uncomfortable.

There were a lot of people who looked like they’d prefer being anywhere else but there.

The atmosphere from the TV was very weird. An initial boisterous crowd and then it started to get quieter and quieter until Jones scored. Jones’ muted celebration didn’t hype the crowd.

A few minutes later, Brentford equalised and the crowd went silent altogether…

That’s just the nature of things when things go south in top flight football. You’re saying it as if it’s something new or something only Slot is afflicted with. These are symptoms of when things are too far gone to claw back.

Jones’ muted celebration didn’t hype the crowd.

That was the weirdest reaction to us scoring a goal at Anfield, both from the players and from the crowd, that I’ve seen in a looong time.
I mentioned here that we are the weakest this season ight after we concede. When I used to play county league football we had it drummed into us that we had to be razor sharp right after scoring because that’s when it’s easiest to concede.
The Anfield crowd has seen it too many times this season. That’s why there was hardly any celebration.It was Salah’s last assist in his last game (and it was a glorious cross) and should have been celebrated more.

But this is where we are right now.

This is my concern, people point to Arteta but Arsenal hadn’t challenged for the title for a good number of years.

He wasn’t on the back of a new era having been built up, 450m been spent and a title winning side.

I give Slot credit for what he did last season but this season has shown a manager out of his depth, fearful of other teams and instead of what you’d gradually expect with something emerging it’s going backwards. Yesterday was probably the best he can achieve. On a very hot day.

I have no hope or expectations he can turn it around, I expect we will be recruiting before 2026 is out. The best hope on that is someone pauses taking a job intent on whether ours comes up or we have a emergency hit the button agreement for Klopp to steady it for 6 months (and that wouldn’t be what I want but it’s probably the best idea at that point).
