Slot has become desperate this season. His initial team setups often fail, forcing changes. He’s been tactically outmatched this season and it seems like he’s lost.
Yeah that’s what I thought..You have nothing to support the claim
I usually try to find the positives but hard to argue with that tbf. We always seemed so calm last year and I thought Slot was a big part of that. Everything seems desperate this year. Throwing all the attackers on and hoofing crosses in, when there’s still 20-30mins to go
He brought it up against Burnley and it seemed to make a suggestion it was required in that game and in a way he was right.
But he continues to seem to use it.
Yep , even when we manage an equaliser you know that it’s just as likely that we’ll concede again rather than snatch a winner playing in such a gung-ho way , and with our crap defending. And so it proved , yet again.
It’s really going to show how good he is as a manager. We have been joking about his real test but he’s never has such a huge slump here before. Would require him to cut the noise that will come from media and “pundits” and get us back both into winning ways and some good performances. Real pressure now.
Yeah he said the pundits were right in this country… maybe that’s the first mistake from him. God knows what his dad is thinking.
Klopp did it too. But on rare occasions and almost never with so much time to go.
Slot on the other hand looks clueless and after a point desperate. It’s no wonder that the players can’t tell up from down. The fact that he’s just had 10+ days to look at his failing setup, tactics and lineups and decided to stick with them is hugely worrying.
To be fair, he has to have some plan in his head, but whatever that is is anyone’s guess. One thing for certain is that he has to make immediate changes.
We used to moan at Klopp for leaving it so late to make subs. Can see why now. Really throws whatever system has been practiced in the bin for a Hail Mary
Freaking Dutchmen, eh? ![]()
First and foremost, let’s get this said:
Slot won the league at his first attempt. At a canter. He is a very good coach and leader, and has tons of credit in the bank.
With that obvious statement of unequivocal support out of the way, there are some legitimately concerning things right now. Chief among them, for me, is I can’t see what we are trying to do! Usually I can, even if there’s a gap between intent and execution.
But right now I don’t see the formation, pattern or tactics. On top of that, the press is off, the defence is off, a few players are below par, and it all looks to be much less than the sum of its parts.
I am backing Slot to lead us through this little storm out into a golden sky again.
My suspicion is we are betwixt and between, and Slot probably needs to bite the bullet and bench Mo Salah. That’s far from the only issue, mind.
I’ve been calling for a change in formation to a diamond. If we are going to persist with wingers then we need elite wingers, and we don’t have that on either flank. Mo was that. But not any more. Gakpo is solid, but not elite. Ngumhoa might become elite, but he’s a kid.
Meanwhile I think we have some elite or borderline elite players e.g. a little triangle of Wirtz behind Ekitike and Isak, and it needs to come to the fore.
Maybe Slot will solve it a different way, but I am backing him to solve it.
It remains to be seen how far off the pace we fall, which would rule out a title run. It’s still early days, but if we don’t get our act together, the gap will be too big. I can’t see us finishing outside the CL spots, and if it does start to click, then winning the CL might even be possible this season.
I’m not panicked. I’m 100% behind Slot. But there is work for him to do.
I think the title is gone to be honest but yeah if they somehow get it to click the can potentially go far in the CL just the long way around.
Deciding last season to swan off to Ibiza & hang out with the likes of Wayne Lineker with the season still ongoing set the tone for all this.
Spot on. Unprofessional on a massive scale. Save it to the end of the season. The shit couldn’t-be-arsed performances wore thin for me very quickly, we were league champions playing like a fucking pissed-up pub team and we haven’t looked anything like a competent football team since.
I don’t just blame Slot for this btw, the whole culture around the club needs looking at. It’s not like we were playing well up until the title was won, we’d been shite for a couple of months bar the odd half of football.
Yeah I wasn’t pleased with that last season, I remember the first weekend and I thought ok fine. Then they flew in served up some garbage against Chelsea and then were away again the following week.
I think some lads disappeared somewhere on the 3rd week as well, should have gone away invite the wives to some secluded resort let them have a party come back finish the season off and celebrate.
Then again we would probably have had a load of babies come Jan ![]()
Agree with a lot what you’ve said, just praying Slot bucks the trend of the Dutch managers we’ve seen in recent PL history. They tend to be ridiculously stubborn and unwilling to show any flexibility in tactical approach, so far this season it’s not looking good on that front.
Couldn’t believe he went with an unchanged team today. Was a real surprise in particular to see Jones not start given he had two weeks to prepare him for this game and considering MacAllister has been an absolute non entity so far this season.
Oh great blaming the players …
Is this the beginning of Rodgers, we won they lost.
The Liverpool head coach blamed wastefulness in front of goal and more set-piece lapses from his team for their latest reverse,
Yep, in my preferred diamond formation, on current form Jones gets in ahead of Mac Allister. The latter is of course a fine player, but he has been short of his best so far this season, though to be fair he has been carrying a knock.
Still, when Jones came on today he looked really good. He broke through the lines carrying the ball very well, had good vision to make a few angled passes, and was generally proactive in upping the tempo and helping to try to make stuff happen. He would be worth a starting spot at the minute, for me.
Slot probably won’t do it, but I would like to see:
Ekitike Isak
Wirtz
Jones Szobo
Grav
Kerkez VVD Konate Frimpong
If Mac Allister gets back to top form he makes his way in.
We will have plenty of hungry strikers on the bench, including Salah, and when he plays it should be in a two nearer to the goal, all based on form and fitness, not past glories.
Width comes from the fullbacks. They can get up the pitch and both have stamina for days.
If it breaks down and the fullbacks are high up, Grav slots into a back three to help.
I think this gives us a better balance between defence and attack, and it also starts to depend on the new attacking talent we have brought in.
Let’s go Arne. You know it makes sense!
