“There are multiple reasons we have lost so many games but with all the reasons still are no excuses to lose so many but it hasn’t been helpful that all the games we lost there were only two days in between the games we had to play away from home.”
I think a point or less in those 2 league matches will see them shelve all contract extensions talks with Slot… That is literally the bare minimum now…
Just want to say I am 100% on the Arne Slot bus. He won the Prem and the new season is only a quarter of the way through.
Granted we are in a bit of a pickle, and there’s work to do, but I’m backing Slot to turn it around.
I think he wants to get going with his new attacking breed, but he hasn’t been able to unleash it all yet, and the balance of the side isn’t quite right. I suspect he is caught between two stools but he will grab hold of the future as soon as he is able.
Some of the quotes aren’t very smooth, but I think a bit of that is cultural. The Dutch say whatever the heck they are thinking, and there’s usually not a lot of guile there.
Things are going to turn around. We are walking through a storm right now. A golden sky is on the way. Time to back the manager. He will turn it around.
I’m not calling for Slot to get the sack, to be abundantly clear. I agree that he deserves some time to figure it out.
But I’m trying to be realistic. FSG just made a massive, unprecedented investment this summer. Of course, it’s reasonable to expect that things will be a bit rocky as everyone settles in. But will they tolerate this kind of form after the money they spent this summer? After the contracts that were given to Salah and Van Dijk? I’m not so convinced.
I recall Klopp completely remaking our midfield one summer without this kind of drop in form. So, it’s possible to have a significant shift without this kind of collapse.
And it could look especially ugly with some of our upcoming matches.
So, I hope that by the time we reach the next international break, we’ve seen signs of improvement. Because absent that…Slot might be in a very precarious position.
You accused me of being unhappy that we won the title last year. I guess all the time I spent waking up early to watch matches, all the money I spent on merch, all the time I’ve spent soaking up every bit of Liverpool-related content I can find, all the time I’ve spent posting here for years, means that I’m a fake supporter who can’t take joy in our successes.
Do you not realize how bad faith responses like that reflect more poorly on you than they do on us?
You’re the most engaging of the mods which is absolutely fair enough. You’re also the most dismissive to others. A fair few have asked/called for that hat to be removed to which the response was ’ carry on, hard work, it’s not a laugh (I paraphrase but you get the gist and you know the response you made after banning Jack).’ I absolutely get that as well, it’s a damn thankless job.
That said, by having the role you get a certain amount of credibility from it that at varying points you’ve just been too dismissive of others to deserve, in all honesty. You are obviously entitled to your opinion and be a frustrated fan like the rest of us but you’ve taken it out on a fair few a fair few times. I honestly suggest you take a step back and evaluate.
He’s also had to put up with WUM’s for the better part of 15years that I am aware of, after a while it becomes hard to suffer fools lightly.
Not pointing any fingers, just raising a point that internet fan forums are far more annoying to moderate than before COVID made every so annoyingly crazy
The issues with the team’s form started at the back end of last season and it has gotten worse for one reason or another but primarily due to the turnover of players.
Quotes as mentioned above regarding not having enough players and injuries, as well as the “this competition is for the kids” or “we all know how special the Man U game is for fans” feel wooden and a deflection.
My perspective was always - give it till Christmas and I stick to it. Still think top 5 is very possible and that would bode very well indeed for the next 2-3 seasons.
There once was a Dutchman named Slot,
Who fancied his tactics red-hot.
But the Kop’s looking glum,
Coz the goals don’t quite come,
And the pressing’s gone cold on the spot.
He whispers, “Be patient, you’ll see,
My football’s as slick as can be!”
Yet the Scousers all groan,
At each sideways moan,
We’ve lost six in a row, how can this be?
Klopp left big boots at the door,
And Arne said, “Aye, I’ll do more!”
But the ball hits the post,
And the fans start to toast,
“Bring back the gegenpress roar!”
So Slot keeps on stroking his bald head,
Thinking, “How do I turn this to a win?”
With a wink and a plan,
He’ll convince every fan—
That chaos was part of the plan.
How many times has throwing a game actually worked out in the long term? What happens if we fail to beat Villa and R. Madrid, which is the most probable outcome?
In my opinion, this lineup and bench was another poor decision in a long line of poor decisions by Slot and his post game comments about lack of options and players struggling with the numbers of games in October only made it worse.
I hope for everyone’s sake that he is vindicated, but at the moment it looks like he’s making his position untenable.
On your last point what is there to suggest this is going to happen. The defeat at Palace could have been described as a one off if we had improved the game after and the game after. Unfortunately this isn’t happening its getting worse the Brentford game was shambolic the Frankfurt game masked things because they are shite.
What was it all about getting to fix things, reaction and stop the rot from Virgil in his programme notes ? There is a disconnect here, with the way Slot has put up the lineup.
A Blind man could have foretold that there is no way we are winning the Palace game with this lineup and subs, with Palace starting established front 3 and having experience on bench.
I fail to understand how Salah, Ekitike, Ibou/Virg and Wirtz could not have been on the bench and played 15-20 min each. How big of a journey they needed to make for this game. We handed over the impetus to palace before the game even started.
When the rot has set in like this…you need to big up and show your resolve…not completely throw the kids under the bus…so they could take the blame.
Look at the bench for City, Arsenal, Newcastle they all have CL …but they didn’t keep all kids on bench. What happens if we lose to Villa and that is not a thing to discount, as we have no answers yet.
We keep talking about formations and tactics and press…but the fact is we have been exposed as softies since, Carabao cup final.
We just do not have the players to go toe to toe …battle with the other teams and knock them over to win second balls. I can only think of Dom, Robbo, Virg and Endo.
We have lost the resolve in Jota, Diaz …even Nunez could rub it in at times and may be Harvey.
If teams have worked us out, there are only two ways this can be resolved:
put a lineup somehow with players which are ready to go for a fight…I know we don’t have the 11 but atleast have Robbo and Endo in there.
play the game at your pace and not the oppositions game. One of the reasons we were successful under Klopp was we could up the gear in adversity and just blew teams apart with our gameplay.
I also sadly feel that when the situation is like this grim, Slot doesn’t get that extra 1% from players as Klopps could because of the man management difference, where Klopps could get anyone in the team and they will be right up for it…and will give their drop of blood for him. That kind of squad harmony and togetherness hasn’t been there with decisions screaming about it.
