Arne Slot - Head Coach

Do wish you hadn’t channelled DT at the end, though

Don’t think a lot are after Slot’s head on a platter yet, but do want some enlightenment as to what is going on, some things look inexplicable but may have a sound basis, team selection(horses for courses)etc.
It is a hard league and,as we are seeing can be pretty unforgiving.

Was it more the football or the weather? I noticed that people left the front rows when the rain became horizontal, but they seemed to go back when it let up.

I’ve never left a football match early, but I can remember being stuck out in the rain at Roker Park and considering it. I probably only stayed on because there was a good chance we would get a result.

I kinda got on my own nerves while writing, so it seemed fitting

A lot of people left after the sending off, including me. First time, since the Souness days, when Bristol City beat us in the FA Cup. I was punished for leaving early though, with the soaking I received walking back to the train station.

That’s not a good sign . You sat through all of the Hodgson dross?

Sorry couldn’t help it

You are very optimistic here. He’ll only stay in place if he manages to steady the ship and get results again. A failure to do so, will probably still let him some more time, but only the time fsg and Edwards/Hughes need to identify a suitable replacement.

But it would be surprising if we continue on that losing streak for much longer. At some point (and maybe not that far), there will be a reaction, and a big result giving everyone confidence again.

Rodger’s 2014-15 season was an absolute shitshow, but he remained in post for the full season before being dismissed in October the following year. And this is a manager who had been a pain in the arse, strategically, from day one, never aligned with their vision, and didn’t have any credit in the back to fall back on.

You could argue that FSG were waiting for Klopp to give them the nod, and there may be some truth in that, but that doesn’t explain why they let him spend close to £50m (from memory, back when that was a lot more than it is now) on Benteke and Clyne (apparently his pick, unlike Bobby Firmino who is didn’t particularly want)

Apparently they were willing to let Hodgson have the season, until relegation became a live issue.

The only scenario in which I see FSG pulling the plug on him is if it genuinely looks like we’re spiralling into relegation concern.

Variants of ‘if he doesn’t win the next two’ or stuff like that are wide of the mark, in my opinion. That isn’t how FSG work.

I hope AS is too cute in providing the nails for his own coffin…
Sometimes it’s best to say as little as possible while we are not playing well, rather than risk going on a rant of sorts and saying the wrong stuff that turns people against him…

I agree with both of these sentences. On the other hand, if someone they’ve identified as a suitable replacement becomes available, then it could go faster than we think. We’ll see. At the times you’re referring to, neither Edwards nor Hughes were at the club, or in a position to influence Hodgson’s or Rodgers’ position.

And I hope Slot’s been up all night in his kitchen thinking about tactics and formations to get us out of this bad run!

Which kitchen???

If we lose the next three and go into the international break having dropped 9 of 10, I’m not so sure that FSG won’t act. I imagine it’ll depend on what they’re hearing from the players, in part. If there’s a lot of disillusionment, they might consider stepping in while there’s still a chance to salvage something from the season.

From the outside looking in, it’s hard to make a fair judgment. All you can look at is results (which have been horrible) and try to parse what you can from interviews and data (mixed). Those closer to Slot and the players will have a better sense of how things are progressing and whether there is a change of form on the horizon.

Still recall those arguing that we wouldn’t miss TAA. That went well.

I honestly don’t think Trent would have made much difference, because for me it is defensively that we have an issue, we really aren’t struggliing for goals.

But we do miss his passing range

In every bad spells we’ve had, I always remember someone finding the player we are missing. In reality, said player would not have necessarily made much difference every time.

For the record, I never said we wouldn’t miss Trent (even if I know we have coped well every time we lost a big player), and defended him all the way for his decision, however hurt I was and however much I didn’t agree.

It’s all interconnected. Moving the ball forward is a struggle, not to mention the times we lose possession in dangerous areas trying to do that.
