The issue with this formation is setting up a cohesive press as you now have 2 marking 4. There are solutions but more complicated that with a 3 up top.
Someone mentioned meritocracy earlier, Ramsay has a great game against Palace and has not featured?
You would have thought Arne would have rewarded that performance and given him bench minutes?
I thought he might have been on the bench against Villa, instead we two goalkeepers. In the CL, he’s not eligible. Who knows if he picked up a knock or something, nobody asked Slot and he mentioned nothing either.
spent alot of time injured since joining us,
lets take it slowly with him
That formation is 2 up top. The player behind them is more like a 4th midfielder which is perfect for Wirtz as he has a huge work rate. Most of our midfield can play that 4th attacking midfield position. Our 3 up front with two of them hugging the touch line is failing match after match.
Wirtz is not hugging the touch line when he plays off the left (or right).
Exactly, with 2 up top you can’t press 4, therefore someone has to step out of midfield to press and can be a little more complicated, we can’t press wth 3 forwards and we currently press with 4, with Szob being the 4th.
He has barely played there as most of his starts have been as the third in a 3 man midfield which is why our midfield is non-existent.
The end of the year will tell us all we need to know on roughly where will we end up…
It’s not worth over thinking this, it’s just words.
It’s what’s seen on the pitch that’s important. I feel that that has been becoming more and more damning.
Slot imo had never shown he ‘understands’ the EPL. It’s intensity tactics employed …
He obviously feels/thinks he can just come in and impose his ideas on the league. We looked so unprepared against City it was embarrassing.
Even so we started well our press worked well for a while however it collapsed due to players going off script (not surprising considering we don’t press much anymore). Once that happened we looked like we didn’t have a clue.
I don’t care that we lost, it’s that our performance was unworthy of the players we have.
There’s so much about how we play that can be discussed it’s confusing and endless. However going into a match completely unprepared is criminal imo.
Is this true? Has anyone watched City-Bournemouth?
Not me.
This playing Poorly 1st half isnt a new thing. It happened in most games last seson.
What I have noticed this season that we are so slow out of the blocks. We are passing the ball sideways and backwards more than ever. I understand that if away from home in CL semi and you are trying to protect a lead but not every league game.
I dont watch football to watch 2 CBs pass the ball back and forth to each other slowly,
Not only are we poor we are also so boring its even slower than last season. This is the premier league - its the fastest league in the world so no idea why SLot wants us to play 1980s paced Serie A style football.
You see Wirtz and others make runs and the ball keeps on going backwards. We need to get the ball to Wirtz and front players so much quicker
4 games in 16 off the sides. Other than that, #10.
Struggling with something doesn’t mean they didn’t expect it. We can have the best plan, ultimately it’s then down to the players on the pitch to do it.
You might be the most important brick in the least important wall, or a grain of piss dried on the floor of the Queen’s toilet.
At the end of the day, we’re all just a bit of something on a bit of something else. It is important to remember this before expecting anything better.
Are you suggesting the Queen used to piss on her toilet floor? Crikey! Next you’ll be telling us she used to fart as well… ![]()
I mentioned a while back that Slot needs to leave now but after the past couple of weeks and the positive performances against Villa and Madrid, Slot should be given the whole season to sort this team out. The only risk is if he doesn’t and we miss out on Europe altogether, that would be a disaster. Also, I don’t see anyone else coming in and sorting out this team in a hurry. Don’t want to end up in managerial merry-go-round.
That sounds pretty radical. Being ready to dismiss Slot, but then giving him the rest of the season because of two positive results and two relatively positive performances (we were better against Real than against Villa). Missing out on CL football would be a serious failure (I mean, where we come from last season, because performances this season might not merit it!), let alone missing out on Europe altogether.
