Arne Slot - Head Coach

I hope when we say missing out on Europe, that we actually mean missing out on Champions League. Anything less than that, by top four or winning this year isn’t an option.

Anything less than CL would be disastrous

It’s called ‘walking football’ but it’s usually for people aged over 50yrs, not highly paid professionals. And yes, it’s very boring.

I think people, me included have very legitimate concerns about Slot now. It’s not just knee jerk to question what the fuck is going on! We have been mostly shite since we sealed the league last year. The tail end of last season we just put down to the fact there was nothing to play for except points, but that has continued into this season and we are in a shocking position in the league now. Manure are above us for fuck sake!!!
I am not sure what to make of our inability to defend properly this year, but also our forward players relative lack of impact on almost every game (Hugo aside).
I think if he just asked Grav to sit and not bomb on, that would make a big difference to our overall shape and mean that the London marathon congregation can no longer run through our midfield without bumping into a single Liverpool player. We are so open in the middle of the park every single bloody game!! I have no idea why it’s not being seen and corrected? I know I am not a football manager, but that one change would solve some of our issues - I literally sit shouting at the tv every game about the massive expanse of green grass in the middle with no red shirt to be seen. Individuals have been poor and new signings need time, can’t lay all the blame at Slot, but I don’t think anyone is out of order for questioning if he has the answers!

I think everyone’s concerned.

Oh yeah, he probably meant that.

I’m just one of those fans (might be in a little minority here) that always chooses by absolute default: if it’s not CL, give me EL and if it’s not EL, give me Conference.

I just hate seasons without Europe, they feel half empty.

I would have CL or nothing.
The other two are distractions. Better off without them.
Anyway, we will finish in top four and win the European Cup this season. We’ll be ok.

Top 4 is hard to measure especially this early in the season but I think there’s bigger jeopardy of missing out than some want to believe, there’s no telling if Chelsea are better than last season, Newcastle and ourselves are obviously worse off, Arsenal and City there isn’t much point discussing as they’ve already one foot over the line, Spurs and Utd are better off (impossible not to be)…whether it’s enough for either to knock on the door, perhaps Spurs. Either way there’s going to be a lot of reliance on other teams dropping points.

Top 2 look good to finish on 85-90 points, then I see 3rd to about 7th all ending on 70-75, but it’s all January activity/injury permitting.

In terms of us, I don’t expect any January activity as we speak, unless there’s one more big injury at CB.

Many things can still change over the season.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a CB is a suitable one is available. However, I don’t think we will pay over the odds or panic buy.

I can’t see it in Jan personally, unless there is an injury to Virg or Konate in the meantime. In the summer it must surely be top priority to bring in at least 2 CB’s? (I’m assuming Djimi Konate is fucking off to Spain or whatever)

I saw a headline saying we have put in a new contract offer for Konaté (quoting L’Equipe).

I was thinking more if a player was to become available in that time. Similar to how we did with Diaz. We currently don’t know how long it will be before Leoni is available, so I would have thought bringing forward any signing makes sense.

This assumes that a suitable player is available. We seem to have struggled with this for a while.

I think as long as Gomez is fit (bloody hell!) then I don’t think we’ll go in for anyone, as January is a notoriously difficult window. I think we’ll go back in for Guehi on a free in the summer. I hope I’m wrong of course, but I just can’t realistically see it.

At this point it is well worth potentially overpaying for Guehi. We have lost a centre back for the season, are left with three, of which one is very injury prone, and the other is no stranger to an injury himself.

I completely agree with you. I am just not certain it will happen in January. Fingers crossed I’m wrong though as we definitely need another top CB whether Konate leaves or stays.

I think there is going to be a riot if we don’t. Most of the fanbase has flashbacks to going into a season with three CBs and watching them drop one by one!

Bring back Hendo and Fab, we’ll be fine. Actually where’s Nat Phillips?

We still have Rhys don’t we?

This is interesting from Thiago, remember this way of playing?! Well we dont play like this any more. Any suggestions why?

Because we have a different head coach, who wants more control over things and more domination. And even if they share the some of the same principles (especially off the ball), we’ve lost some balance this summer and are trying to build it again.
