I’m just one of those fans (might be in a little minority here) that always chooses by absolute default: if it’s not CL, give me EL and if it’s not EL, give me Conference.
I just hate seasons without Europe, they feel half empty.
I would have CL or nothing.
The other two are distractions. Better off without them.
Anyway, we will finish in top four and win the European Cup this season. We’ll be ok.
Top 4 is hard to measure especially this early in the season but I think there’s bigger jeopardy of missing out than some want to believe, there’s no telling if Chelsea are better than last season, Newcastle and ourselves are obviously worse off, Arsenal and City there isn’t much point discussing as they’ve already one foot over the line, Spurs and Utd are better off (impossible not to be)…whether it’s enough for either to knock on the door, perhaps Spurs. Either way there’s going to be a lot of reliance on other teams dropping points.
Top 2 look good to finish on 85-90 points, then I see 3rd to about 7th all ending on 70-75, but it’s all January activity/injury permitting.
I can’t see it in Jan personally, unless there is an injury to Virg or Konate in the meantime. In the summer it must surely be top priority to bring in at least 2 CB’s? (I’m assuming Djimi Konate is fucking off to Spain or whatever)
I saw a headline saying we have put in a new contract offer for Konaté (quoting L’Equipe).
I was thinking more if a player was to become available in that time. Similar to how we did with Diaz. We currently don’t know how long it will be before Leoni is available, so I would have thought bringing forward any signing makes sense.
This assumes that a suitable player is available. We seem to have struggled with this for a while.
I think as long as Gomez is fit (bloody hell!) then I don’t think we’ll go in for anyone, as January is a notoriously difficult window. I think we’ll go back in for Guehi on a free in the summer. I hope I’m wrong of course, but I just can’t realistically see it.
At this point it is well worth potentially overpaying for Guehi. We have lost a centre back for the season, are left with three, of which one is very injury prone, and the other is no stranger to an injury himself.
I completely agree with you. I am just not certain it will happen in January. Fingers crossed I’m wrong though as we definitely need another top CB whether Konate leaves or stays.
I think there is going to be a riot if we don’t. Most of the fanbase has flashbacks to going into a season with three CBs and watching them drop one by one!
Because we have a different head coach, who wants more control over things and more domination. And even if they share the some of the same principles (especially off the ball), we’ve lost some balance this summer and are trying to build it again.
Yes, such an inspiring manager, one who connected with players and fans alike.
Obviously, Arne has a different character and temperament which didn’t matter so much last year when we were winning the title, but this year it’s more noticeable and perhaps he could or should try to engage a bit more with the fanbase, to get them onside and garner more support during this difficult period, instead of people calling for his head.
This is just my opinion, of course, and could just be a load of nonsense
