Arne Slot - Head Coach

I’d agree with that. I said before the Forest game I thought he had til NYD but after Saturday I think the timeframe has got much shorter.

We lose to West ham and its the Green mile for him unfortunately.

Nice to meet you Michael Edwards or is it Richard?

If they lose to West Ham he won’t be sacked, let’s hope it doesn’t happen.

The electric chair seems a bit harsh

Lynch said post-Forest that he thinks the owners won’t do anything until there’s a confirmation if we’re in the CL or potentially out of it. Because if he stays, then there might be a new contract. That it could be the end if he fails to get us CL football next season. Of course, there might be a limit if this fall just continues…

The “Green Mile” refers to the hallway inmates walk down to their execution on death row, nicknamed for its green linoleum floor. It is a symbolic name for the final walk toward death, representing the inescapable and inevitable journey of mortality that all people make.

I don’t think it makes sense to say “he has until X date” anyway. I think you just have to weigh whether there is improvement on the pitch and/or whether the players have lost faith. If they get to December 13 and they’ve gone winless and there is locker room drama, I can’t imagine that FSG will simply say “well, we can’t do anything until January 1!”

I think the trigger will be if form doesn’t improve and if they line up a replacement they’re excited about. If Klopp signals he’s willing to come back, I think Slot will be shown the door sooner rather than later.

Klopp seems happy and relaxed these days, so I doubt he wants to come back. He’s been making several public appearances. Maybe he’s bored?

Have you seen the movie? You know that they’re walking to the electric chair, right?

That’s hilarious. I was wondering when some ITK was going to claim Alonso was available.

I think Xabi’s going nowhere for now and Zidane probably has his sight on France if this is really Deschamps’ last tournament (contract expiring), not matter how they do.

Why would we want to hire the one manager that Slot has been able to beat?!?

There is a lot of really interesting discussion on tactics, formation and personnel. But the biggest issue facing this squad is mentality. And Saturday was a case in point on the issue.

For half an hour we looked really good. Not blow the other team away good, but good in a ‘we’ll go on to find a winner’ good.

When the opener comes, it just kicks the shit out of them - far more than it’s reasonable for a single goal to do. Conceding a goal on thirty minutes should not feel like the end of anything, but for our team at the minute it has the effect of a knockout punch. As soon as that ball hits the back of the net it’s game over. We all know it, and so do the players.

From that point on the team are playing Forest, who now have something to defend. But that’s not all they are playing. They are playing the scoreboard and the need to now find two goals against a team more than willing to sit back and soak up pressure.

They are playing the manner of the goal, and the officials, again. Having just conceded a goal that just two weeks ago PGMOL were absolutely fucking adamant was offside.

They are playing the season, and the title slipping away, and the realisation that for some of them there might not be another.

They are playing each other, and looking around at a defender half out of the club, a right winger who’s legs have gone, a left back who’s head has gone, a left winger who’s heart has gone, and a striker who still looks miles off where he needs to be, and they don’t look like a team that trusts each other.

And they are - and this should be said all the time and as context to everything this season, and frankly fuck the fickle nature of the football narrative - playing the memory of their mate. It is no surprise to me that we concede shortly after the Diogo song, and Robbo’s comments after the Scotland game should shame anyone who has suggested grief is a cheap excuse.

So we can talk about formations and tactics and who should start, but to me the biggest issue is that they look like a team so burdened and so fragile, I don’t think a change of formation or system is going to help until they can get themselves to the other side of this collapse in mentality.

And that’s where my concern with the manager is. People talk about him not having a plan. Of course there is a plan - the club aren’t spending £450m on players with no plan.

But I don’t know if he is the kind of manager who can pick up a broken squad and make them feel ten feet tall again. I don’t know if he can do the man management necessary to get us out of this. I get the impression he is quite a cerebral manager who wants to think himself through his work and solve problems on the training pitch. Well, sometimes you need to rally everyone with a speech. Sometimes you need to put an arm round someone’s shoulder, and sometimes you need to tear a fucking strip off someone.

There has been a lot said about how he has never really faced adversity. Well, he’s facing it now, and he is either going to rise to the challenge or he is going to flounder. I’ll say again, I don’t think he gets sacked before the summer, but he has to prove that he is more that a good tactician and trainer.

There is a plan, but when people wonder what the plan was/is, they mean like how do we fit all those moves in a starting 11.

We don’t. So far it’s proved not possible.

We all agree we need more than 11 quality players to compete on all fronts, but there are different ways how you build that balanced squad.

This summer, perhaps we got it a bit wrong.
