I’ve already said that Slot wouldn’t be at Liverpool next season and nothing I’ve seen in the meantime suggests I will be wrong about it - not because I can look into the future but because I don’t remember any coach in world football turning this kind of form around. In fact, if it had happened at any other club in the world bar Man United, he would have been gone by now.
I realised at some point the other day that all three coaches I was looking at as his possible successors were Spanish: Iraola, Fabregas and Alonso. Even depending on their availability (which won’t be before the summer unless Real Madrid primadonnas turn on Alonso because he wants them to track back), none of them are without risks (though Alonso would likely make the most sense here). So, I think this world of football hurt will continue and that we will have a season not too dissimilar from the one Man United had before this one - only without a cup final.
I had to find the exact transcript of this to see the context. I’m… I’m not really sure what to make of this. This either hints at a disconnect with upper hierarchy (which I doubt) or some belated, cryptic suggestion that transfer decisions from last summer were made with his reluctant agreement, maybe with club’s financial interests in mind (sell Diaz when his value is the highest thus far, keep Salah to sell him to Saudis for major profit, extend Gakpo to protect his transfer value next summer).

Why can not Slot train Gakpo to pass to Kerkez/Robbo on the overlap?
It’s not like Gomez can not cross either.

He’s probably trained them to use Kerkez as a decoy so Gakpo can cut inside and shoot which in fairness is one of his better attributes.
Problem is, with the way teams play vs us, byline cut backs are one of the best ways to score from vs low blocks
If Slot wanted Kerkez used as a decoy he wouldn’t have him inverting.
Gakpo doesn’t use runners because he’s selfish/doesn’t have the quality to use them. Can’t blame that on Slot’s coaching, only Slot’s choice to pick him.

I doubt it as Kerkez looks frustrated and overlaps less and less. It’s the typical reaction of an overlapping player when he’s giving up wasting his energy.

I am not sure what our coaches and boys do on the training pitch handling set piece, especially it’s all Slot talks about. Are we now at the bottom of the league in terms of defending a corner? This is fucking ridiculous.

Having competent players would go a long way towards turning this around but, yeah, that old adage: if the team isn’t working, you don’t sack the players, you sack the boss. This is Brendan-Rodgers-2015-level of atrocious.

What frustrates me is set pieces is all Slot talks about, and if he is so fucking laser focus on it, then work on it. We are so poor in defending corners, or taking advantages of corners that we won.

I’d like to think that when going through confidence issues etc that you could revert back to your training and tactics to at least make sure you’re doing the right actions. Unfortunately I see precious little evidence that they have anything to fall back on.
I’m still begging to see any kind of progress in our playing style. It’s been ugly this season obviously but it also kind of fell apart at the end of last season, which we put down to players switching off when the league was won, but now it seems more of a rooted issue.
Frankly you’ve just got to question whether Slot actually is good enough for this job.
