Arne Slot - Head Coach

Who the fuck are those two at the end?

Dom and???

I am 100% sure the danger of missing out on CL next season is their limit.

What I’m getting even getting at is that we don’t know what the conversations were had regarding the sale of Quansah, but we can say with some certainty that the circumstances around that sale are that the Club are not done with him.

It’s a selective reading to imply that Quansah was doing absolutely fine until Slot dropped him. He was looking increasingly wobbly at the end of Klopp’s final season, and while you could obviously see the promise, you could also see mistakes creeping into his game. When Slot famously hooked him at half time at the start of last season, it wasn’t for no reason - he was getting dominated physically and losing his battles. Konate didn’t really put a foot wrong after that and I didn’t see anything from Quansah in his subsequent appearances that would have made it difficult for Slot to push Konate back to the bench.

Should Slot have played him more? Well possibly, but the biggest counter argument against that is that we won the league, so ultimately he was right. That’s an argument that takes some refuting.

So where we end up at the of the season, is that Quansah is down the pecking order; clearly a player of some promise but at risk that promise wouldn’t be met getting occasional games as back up centre back.

Is it so hard to believe that the plan regarding Quansah was something worked up with the full backing of Slot? It’s at least as plausible as assuming it was a fudge solution to problem Slot created, which to me sounds like a bit of post hoc reasoning now Slot is struggling.

I bet that all concerned would take a different path with the benefit of hindsight, especially in knowledge that Guehi would collapse, Leoni would do his ACL on his debut, and Konate was about to turn into a gibbering wreck.

Who at 18 years of age happens to be four years younger than Quansah, and is probably at the stage in his development where occasional games are OK.

Leoni also came in with a fair bit more pedigree than Quansah had at that age, he looked incredible ahead of the curve physically for an 18 year old, and we’re been denied seeing how he would have been used because he did his ACL.

Quansah is 22. He is young for a centre back but hardly a baby. I think he has the potential to be an elite player, but he needs regular games.

I really would not be surprised if the idea was to buy him back from Leverkusen in a couple of years as Van Dijk ages out.

just read the full statement again, missed this bit first time round

Ouch!

To be fair I think that’s Joyce’s artistic licence rather than an official statement.

I don’t know what Salah was thinking, but I’m wondering if he’s actually strengthened Slot’s position rather than undermined it?

Sacking him now would make it look like FSG are bending to the whim of a stroppy player. They will be aware what a terrible precedent that would set.

Joyce and co are doing what they need to to retain access to the club. Same with TAW and Redmen TV.

Reddy et al will be doing the same on Salah’s side.

It’s all just really predictable, we know what each article is going to say before its read.

Wouldn’t say strengthened but maybe gave him a bit more time.

Tbh I expected Slot to be sacked after the result yesterday. But after Mo’s interview it was clear to me that they can’t sack him now before Salah leaves for AFCON.

If (as some are suggesting) they’re not sacking him yet to save face because of Mo then they are absolute fools!! We are dropping points almost every game now and every loss/draw/shit performance is eroding away at the players, not to mention all the staff and us fans.
If they are not sacking him because they have taken account of all circumstances and still believe in him then that’s one thing, but if it’s a PR exercise (which I doubt) then the owners are damaging our season even more than has already been done!!

If that’s the case its even more weak managment.

Well… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: It’s better to laugh than cry

That Joyce article is a shocker and despite what I said above, it actually came as a bit of a surprise to me. I thought he was better than that.

It’s just a hit piece, and actually lends some credibility to Salah’s words.

Nobody doing themselves any favours here.

Not that I condone Salah’s public outburst, but it has to be said that this story underlines a weakness in Slots squad management. For instance, his reluctance to trust Chiesa a bit more this season forced him into playing Mo into the ground from minute 1 to 90, every freaking game or almost. The lad is 34 ffs. He was off-form, and still stayed on beyond any reason. Suddenly, Slot makes a belated U-turn and drops him from three successive starting lineups.

My perception is that there is a lack of finesse in the way he handles his players, and when things are difficult , it shows.

But… patience. I’m sure that this squad can find its way out, but Slot needs to trust everyone.
