I think the apt comparison is actually what happened after winning the league, rather than Slot v Klopp. And you can throw in the 22/23 season in which we as good as won it the year before (taking City to the final game until Villa collapsed, reaching the CL final and winning both domestic cups)
The point is that it takes a lot of effort to sustain league winning form over a campaign and that is often followed by a season in which fatigue sets in. I’ll bet that that if Arsenal do win it this season, they’ll struggle in 2026/27
You may be right, but I hope not! I’m adopting a wait and see policy. I think this season we will finish in the CL spots via the Prem but won’t get enough consistency to be close to a title challenge.
As for the CL, maybe we go out but I’m hoping we get to the latter stages, where anything can happen. We despatched Real Madrid quite handily, and that sort of display makes me think anything is possible. Isak redemption arc and he scores the winner in the final? I’ll have some of that.
in 2004/5 season
we lost our star player, who came from the academy, to Real Madrid,
Our record singing broke his leg,
we went onto win the Champs league,
in season 2025/26
we lost our star player, who came from the academy, to Real Madrid,
Our record singing broke his leg,
maybe we will win the champs league!
we just need a new pope, and Ken Barlow to get married or something daft like that, then the stars will have aligned!
This is just a quick hello from a first time poster.I’m a bit of a refugee who clambered into my small boat to escape another forum that has descended into anarchy and is ruled over by rebel posters who preach hate and are intolerant of any views that don’t concur with theirs. I had a look around at some alternatives and the one thread I checked in each was the Arne Slot one. The place I’ve abandoned was so toxic on the subject of Slot that it became offensive. So I was pleased to read on this one that although there are some questions around how things are going this season there is an altogether more reasonable discourse and a hopeful tone too. I hope I’m right anyway.
For the record I think Slot has struggled to find a perfect system that fits the newcomers but is slowly getting there, even if the footie is a bit turgid at times. A work in progress. Players are settling in and against Wolves our first half was good. Second half the players lost composure and energy after Wolves scored which has happened before and is a worry. Something you can work on though.
I would say that exactly one month ago today LFC was in 12th place with only 18 points and just four weeks later we are fourth with 32 points. For me, that’s a club heading in the right direction and Slot needs credit for that at least.
Anyway hi to all. I hope I can be a positive poster. Btw I’ve had this moniker since 2006 and I’m not in LA anymore.
It is really lovely in here. We do have disagreements, but we pull together when we are not feeling quite right in the head. The sense of humour here is fantastic.
Welcome, Ged and we always need more moderate members so you will be welcome.
Just wondering why you’d stuck with ‘inLA’ if you’ve just signed up here and you don’t live there? But don’t mind me, my moniker is - would you feckin believe it - not actually my surname.
Many many moons ago I left another well-known forum (will not name names) which was the polar opposite of what you describe, any dissenting voices from the party line (support the team no matter what) were frowned upon very harshly.
I’ve been here long enough to be bow to tell you that I feel we strike a good balance here and I enjoy the opinions and company of my fellow TAN forumites.
Hello there..Redged…oh its fun here…we are serious, then we’re not…we argue, then we don’t…but most of all we laugh ,joke and enjoy the exploits of LIVERPOOL FC…enjoy…
Thanks for the welcome guys. This place seems a lot more level-headed than what I’ve been putting up with, which will remain unnamed because it’s just not worth the aggro (but isn’t RAWK!). I stuck with my moniker because I get attached to things, that’s all.
Let’s talk injuries and fitness because some people think it might be a preseason problem.
I disagree.
If everyone is available I think we would have enough quality to make 3-4 changes each game if we’re playing twice a week (PL/CL). But it doesn’t look like Slot is a fan of rotation anyway.
Then we have players like Gomez, Endo, Robertson and Chiesa. Arguably shouldn’t start more than 25% of the games but good enough to give them minutes whenever possible.
Looking at which players Slot brings on and when he makes changes during the matches it’s just criminal how he treats those players (when they are available).
So is it really a surprise that other players get injured or look unfit to play more than 70 minutes in December?
