I’d be surprised if the total revenues from those 10 wins is better than our Champs league revenue from last season, which was around £90M.
the club wouldnt be were it is today if it relied upon winning the League cup and the revenues from it, Its all about the money!
also, it dont think its much of a selling point to a player like Wirtz,
never mind about playing in Champs League, wait till you play in the league Cup and win it!!!
It comes across to me as a way to defend the rest of our performances - Pointing out that if you took the set piece goals out of the equation for us and everyone else we basically are top of the league. I don’t want that to be the point he’s trying to make, because it’s a terrible point, but that is the way.i take it based on everything else he’s saying
Yes I made up my mind on Slot (that’s since the United loss) and I don’t think I will change. I see to many negative things - and I highly doubt time and more transfers will fix them.
But i’m not stupid and I fully expect Slot to be here until his contract expires in 2027. Like I said - the owners won’t sack him as long as he finishes in the Top5 (CL qualification)
Our team structure is super unbalanced . Every team needs a defensive line with 3 players, but our fullbacks are more suited to attacking. Kerkez playing defensive fullback was a total fail, and Frimpong’s not exactly a defensive powerhouse either - he’s one of the most lightweight players I’ve seen! Our midfielders don’t have any could play static role, so we struggle with rest defense. Trent’s not the best defender, but he can stay back and still contribute to attacks. Unlike Kerkez, Frimpong, or Bradley, who’d be out of their depth staying back.
And our build-up and passing? We clearly lack someone to control the ball and dictate the game . I had high hopes for Alister, but even in good form, he’s not that guy. Yeah, we’ve spent a lot and have some crazy talent with Wirtz, Ekitike, Isak… but our squad’s still unbalanced and lacks some critical assets IMO.
City faced similar issues last season, btw. Anyone got their points from this time last season?
Look, I’m not about being proven right, I’m just calling it like it is. The biggest coaching win for Jurgen was transforming Gini into a beast of a CM. The biggest coaching win for Arne was restoring Grav to his best position to thrive and become truly world class.
I’ve said this a couple of times and it’s been interpreted that I’m comparing Slot to Klopp, which is not the case.
But in 20/21, the season after winning the league, we were 34 points after 18 games. Right now this season, we are 32 points after 18.
In 20/21, from this point, we lost 7 of the next 10. In other words, in 20/21, it took an incredibly long time to turn it around, even with a coach the calibre of Klopp. Slot needs some time.
I’m comparing the situations of 20/21 and this season: post-title slump, injuries, defence turning to shit, poor runs of form.
So no. I’m not comparing Klopp to Slot. Comparing seasons? Sure , comparing the difficulty of getting out of a slump across two seasons under different coaches? Sure.
maybe it’s your intent not to have them as relevant to the example, but by doing so and asking people to leave out the biggest and most telling variable, you’re making the comparison a mute point
I think the apt comparison is actually what happened after winning the league, rather than Slot v Klopp. And you can throw in the 22/23 season in which we as good as won it the year before (taking City to the final game until Villa collapsed, reaching the CL final and winning both domestic cups)
The point is that it takes a lot of effort to sustain league winning form over a campaign and that is often followed by a season in which fatigue sets in. I’ll bet that that if Arsenal do win it this season, they’ll struggle in 2026/27
