Arne Slot - Head Coach

Rewatch the 1st 10 minutes

Felt the press got better as we got into the match. After the subs, it was gone.

And the remaining 84mins ?

We still didn’t press well we dropped for more of a mid block until the 2nd half, when we had to.

No question about that.
We’re also choosing not to press high aggressively and using more often the mid block

It feels that the more removed the team is from Klopp’s principles, the worse it gets. In Slot’s first months, he didn’t appear to make substantial changes, just tweaks here and there that worked beautifully. Once he started to assert his influence more, performances started to decline to the point where they’ve become fully problematic.

This sounds like he’s saying he’s had to adapt his game plan because his forwards don’t defend

Arne Slot: “I didn’t change as a manager, I would love to play with eight attackers if that’s possible defensively but if those eight attackers don’t defend enough, it’s hard to win a game of football.”

Can’t be picking Gakpo every week and have said that with a straight face surely.

And what are the Klopp principles that we’ve departed from?

We have to stay the team nobody wants to play against

It’s been like that in my mind ever since the Frankfurt game. I don’t see any signs of positive changes. That ultimately falls to coach, even though there are times when I’d sack the majority of playing staff before him. This is not one of those times.

Out of interest, since you’re an avid follower of stats, is there a particular coach that you think would be a good fit for our current set of players?

Well, there’s the performance of the team, there’s senior figures publicly criticising management and there’s the body language of the players. Apart from that, nothing to suggest that anything’s amiss.

How did you analyze body language

you look at it, its an ancient form of communication, judging peoples mood by body language.

you can question his interpretation, but laughing at someone reading body language isnt adding anything.

We all do it every day. It’s generally accepted among communications experts that non-verbal communication makes up over 50% of all communication.

Yeah..Probably had some algorithms to support the analysis

Honestly no I haven’t tried to do any data analysis of coaches before - I’ve actually taken a break from doing any data analysis for a bit as I’ve been rewatching all the film from the team I coach and putting video together for the players so that is time consuming.

From what I understand when Slot was hired he scored really highly in all our important categories. I do remember a fear from a lot of people that this job would be too big for him and he would crumble at the first sign of pressure - unfortunately after a very strong first season he’s not managed to do anything to prove that narrative wrong.

I imagine Hughes and Edwards absolutely furious with how this season has gone. Slot was their pick, nade from their data driven approach, and halfway through his second season he looks like a deadman walking. Style is gone, misusing the signings, weakest title defence in league history. The current iteration is obviously not what they envisioned even if they did expect a rebuilding year.

yeah its not looking so great.

i actually admire @Mascot and a few others trying to keep some form of positivity, but thats really just scratching around.

the Reed goal was indefensible in set up, saying he couldn’t hit that in 1000 more attempts is incorrect, given the lack of pressure there’d be amatuer players who could hit that target more than that, let alone a premier league player

the chance creation is really just throwing shit at a wall, again, we get goals becuase we can afford a better quality footballer, theres no collective

ill head to the Wirtz page to discuss him, Kerkez was terrible, absolutely terrible, so many moments when he just didnt join the attack, but hes not even around to help defend, If Trent was in the team instead of Bradley the discussion around the Wilson goal would be completely different

theres a lack of belief, even if we arent allowed to assume that of the players, you can see it all through the support…

theres just nothing…

above all that, we are so boring to watch.

someone mentioned the result is framing the narative, but its really not, even if we won that game 2-1, i cant see how the conversation changes, its really that bad

This is what I meant by body language.
