I totally agree, it is having a vision of what Arne wants that most of us are unsure about we are all unsure on the philosophy or implementation of a style or formation that woll progress us.
Agree with your whole post @JustHitMyHead but this line is especially important. I really think the change in assistant has hurt Arne and its clear that the backroom staff in general haven’t been right. Hopefully we can get that sorted ASAP and we see some material improvements.
I vaguely remember reading that Heitinga was closer with the players personally than Arne has been and there’s been a disconnect there since he left. I might be making that up, though.
Don’t tell me to step back, if I have misunderstood something then educate me, don’t threaten me.
I don’t see how the part of my post that you have quoted relates has caused you grievance? in fact it actually supports your point to an extent.
If I have offended you by referring to Fans, It’s a generalisation. By saying Fans, it doesn’t mean every single one of us.
So a question, you hold both the Players and the Management to account for acting like big time Charlies.
So what do you want to see happen?
Has it really been a full year though? We lost to PSG/Newcastle in March, then stuttered over the line with a month to spare because of our levels dropping off, why because our season was already over.
I’m not expecting Slot to be given immunity for winning the Title, but if as you suggest it gives him time and goodwill then give it him! By the sentiments of your post you were already unhappy with Slot 4 months before he/we had even won the Title. Some Goodwill that is.
Look, I acknowledge our Football has been flat/frustrating more often than not recently and you are quite within your rights to have an opinion. However, I personally believe that we should support the Manager/Team that won us the League last season and be patient and allow time for the Summers strategy to come to fruition.
So in Slots first season…. Salah posted record figures, for Goals and Assists.
Diaz and Gapko provide their best returns.
Gravenberch goes from “what is his best position?” To Premier League Young Player of the Year.
Team wins the league with only one real addition to the Squad. Lots of uncertainty around the 3 contracts.
All this whilst the majority of us (me included) thought the World would end without Klopp.
Well Fuck me, we are a tough crowd to please. It took how many years to win a Title, and this Guy delivers one in his first season and yet you want him out the Season after?
I am not saying Slot is perfect or going to lead us to global dominance. But, what I am going to do is manage my expectations, understand we have lost key players and have others coming to the end of their career whilst in a season of Transition.
If the Board decide to replace Slot, then so be it but until then, I am going to support him and the team.
I was referring to this season. We actually won our first 5 league games, even if we didn’t play that well. I had actually expected us to drop points there as I knew it would take time for so many new players to adapt. After that we went through a period of losing everything, getting to the point where we couldn’t even pick up 2nd prize in a beauty contest.
We have improved since then, at least the results, but I can’t believe that what we are seeing on the pitch is actually the blueprint. It looks to me that we are currently trying to enter a greyhound in a horse race.
I still think that not landing Guéhi was a spanner in the works, and I wonder whether that was as a result of us playing nice with Palace (possibly because we are interested in another of their players). However, there is no indication that we are currently planning to bring anyone in during this window, so God knows what Hughes is up to.
Obviously, I wasn’t referring to me individually but to the fanbase as a collective who has, at least the match-goers, been supportive. It wasn’t that long ago when they were singing Slot’s name after finally recording a win.
As for me, it’s true that I have been worried about him for much longer than most, but you won’t find a single time of me calling for his dismissal. I don’t want him to get sacked, I want him to get it right. I can’t though look away and pretend that I like what I’m watching or ignore where this is going. I’d love to think that there’s something to be optimistic about, but I see nothing that suggests that Slot can and will turn this around.
Yeah, “Ok lads, there’s a big chance we’ll play like shit and lose. That’s because you’re all crap players. There’s really not much point in us turning up at all. Wouldn’t you rather stay home and watch Stranger Things? Let’s not bother.”
