That’s a substantial leap in logic…Especially for a club whose squad and manager are in harmony, and appear to remain so even with the Salah issue…
What is abundantly clear is that we have a manager who is very open and direct with players and with the press. I’d rather he be himself than try to ape somebody else.
Afterall there’s no one way. Some players actually appreciate directness…
Klopp was a one off though. He would have made Ramsey feel like a prime Cafu. Then we would sell him for 30 million and he’d never look that good again
Fair criticism. He should have just praised Ramsey and left it at that.
“He has done really well to fight his way up to the first team squad. I see him training each day and he deserves to be with the group. If and when his chance comes I’m sure he we take it …” something like that.
No need to say “there are still other players who are better.” That little bit is where the Dutch forthrightness might be unnecessary.
It’s simple, praise his attitude, work ethic and that it’s great to see him over his bad injuries, then mention competition for positions and say Ramsey is one that is competing for one of those positions, not rocket science
I’m on the Slot bus and hoping he does enough with the rest of the season to show he should be here into the future. If he doesn’t do enough, well, we all know what happens there. So let’s see.
Still, this just seems a bit harsh. Thinking out loud for a second, you have the Dutch forthrightness, and then in Slot’s particular circumstance, he clearly grew up with a father who liked to tell him a thing or two about a thing or two. I’m not saying that was wrong, as it was their style between the two of them, and clearly there is a good father/son bond there. Still, that sort of communication might not carry directly into his current work, and there are times where it might not be the best approach.
In general, top level footballers are in such a bubble that I’m not altogether fussed if the manager gives them a little kicking, so to speak. That seems a useful part of the overall dynamic, but it has to be case sensitive, and the tail end of the Ramsey comments didn’t work, for me.
nothing massive to see here, but yeah, could have just left the last sentence out and nothing would have changed.
all in all im reasonably happy with the way Slot handles the media… i mean, ive lived through Rodgers, i just read about Rosenior…ive looked at the way Arteta holds himself…ill take the odd Dutch honest blip every so often over any of that shite…
In Ramsey’s case I don’t think he needed ‘kicking’ as he has been through the ringer with injuries since he was bought by us, I think he needed more encouragement if anything.
I agree, I think he does manage the media relatively well, it is handling the players that I have my concerns over, just from what I see mainly in regards to squad players.
I’ve been trying hard to get behind Slot over the past couple of weeks from a position of wanting him gone asap.
It wasn’t just the turgid football we’ve played for nearly 12 months or the terrible results, my biggest bugbear was the way he treated certain players - Elliott, Gomez, Endo, Quansah and Chiesa all marginalised or sold.
Reading his comments on Ramsay make me think I’m wasting my time.
nah, dont let some reasonably poorly chosen words sway you either way.
i think anyone calling for Ramsey to play is more wishful thinking than anything else… Slot could have chosen his words a bit better, but compared to the like of Arteta et al, hes miles ahead.
Not sure why he gets so much grief about this. Klopp turned over a whole squad within a few years. Was only really Hendo, Milly and Bobby that remained.
Every coach is going to want their own players. Gomez is obviously being wrapped in cotton wool. The other four you list aren’t really good enough to get annoyed about
I haven’t said anything about POTY, but thank you you for anyone who voted. I don’t take it seriously, and it’s ripe for having the piss taken out of me now but I do want to say that we have many great posters on here, some of whom I look up to as I appreciate their knowledge and depth. I don’t see myself in any sort of light.
Just a red, like everyone else on here, who probably spends too much time distracted about the team and not doing enough productive grown up things.
Which I suppose is what makes the enduring love affair with LFC all the more brilliant.
