I didn’t say that. I said, I hope it doesn’t become a distraction to the point where our league form suffers, which has happened to us before.

The two biggest competitions at one of the world’s biggest clubs are not a distraction for one another.
A club like this should be able to handle both. No point qualifying for it and then getting out of it as soon as we can.
We aren’t Man Utd
Should yes. Does it work that way? Not always. Remember our league form with Dalglish?
Did you see that team under Dalglish
I did, and it was better than the one he inherited.
It was still shit…
And it hardly was able to compete in the cups let alone the league. You could have made a better argument with one of Klopp’s teams. The one he took over in 2015 for instance.
Effectively the money in the CL and progression is not something you should ignore just so you might have another go next year. Especially as we can beat the best.
Ok I am interested in hearing from the group…assuming we don’t make any first team January signings, is that an indication that the club and Slot will part ways in the summer? An argument can be made that a new manager in the summer won’t alter the plan for January signings, but I am not sure about that. Slot was backed significantly last summer, and the football had been uninspiring for the most part this season, albeit with some well noted challenges. What do we think?
Ok, I won’t moan if we reach the CL final (which I think is a huge longshot at the moment,) but if that results in dropping out of the top 4 it’ll be bitter sweet as well as a must win game.
This year, I think top 4 is a darn sight easier than the CL final.
It seems with the comments about Ramsey and the way he says it, that Arne needs some lessons in man management, I know English isn’t his first language, but it wasn’t Jurgens either.
There is ways to say what he said that really bolsters Ramsey’s confidence and effort and by doing so also protects an asset, although not a big asset.
Yes, what he said was true, but we all know there is a better and more positive way to say it.
He is losing my confidence more and more.
It is a possibility I think, saving money for the potential new manager and hoping to scrap a top 4/5 finish. And if that doesn’t happen, well frankly they deserve Europa League then.
In the meantime, two targets (Guehi and Semenyo) in two positions where reinforcements were really needed (centre back and versatile attacker) are off to a direct rival.
I dont think the two are connected. There are some gaps that may exist because the manager doesn’t like his existing options and wants alternatives. You might tie the willingness to address those to the fate of the manager.
But we have gaps at the back that are purely due to numbers. We’d need to address that regardless of who is manager. You might imagine a stand off where the manager is trying to reject Hughes’ preferred target, but you would think a manager in weak standing would have less weight to influence that and block a signing.
All of that means if we fail to do anything at CB this window it is difficult to see that as anything other than Hughes decision on the best way to develop the squad.
shocking way to talk about a young player,
who is probably low in confidence due to his injuries
i wonder what Ramsay’s thinking…
“Well that’s me on the bench again this weekend”
I’ve only just read Slot’s comments about Ramsay and it’s appalling man management. Ramsay now knows that Slot doesn’t rate him and has no intention of using him, unless he has absolutely no choice. The lad should tell the club he wants to leave this month, I don’t think anyone would blame him.
This is such a stark contrast to how Klopp used to make every squad player wanted and made them feel so big, wanted and ready to play.
Slot may be a great tactician, but for all his success last year, he seems hell bent on destroying the squad harmony and especially that togetherness which made this squad go through every storm together.
That’s a substantial leap in logic…Especially for a club whose squad and manager are in harmony, and appear to remain so even with the Salah issue…
What is abundantly clear is that we have a manager who is very open and direct with players and with the press. I’d rather he be himself than try to ape somebody else.
Afterall there’s no one way. Some players actually appreciate directness…
Klopp was a one off though. He would have made Ramsey feel like a prime Cafu. Then we would sell him for 30 million and he’d never look that good again
Yes, I agree completely
Klopp had Ramsay.
We can’t do “wonders” with every player.
There’s a ton of players who have and will go through this club without being able to fully make it, for different reasons.
A lot of times it will be down to simply quality.
