Didn’t someone say Stats are Lies, lies and damn lies?
I remember talking to someone during my post grads years who did pharmacokinetics…that person told me that you just use stats to create a model (or models) to fit what you want the outcome to be. Just make sure that you can defend the thesis.
With the series of not too great results, and a few (but unfortunately rare) really good results in between, Slot just cannot win with his press conference…If he puts a positive spin, people will say he is covering the cracks or does not know what he’s talking about. If he puts a negative spin, people will say he is putting the team/players down and not providing the mental boosts that the players need (inevitably Kloppo’s man management will be brought up).
I have stopped seeking for his pre-match press conferences because I felt that Slot repeats the same answer over and over. But like Zoran and a few others stated, it’s mostly because the journalists asked stupid and dumb questions.
The win percentage stats above were interesting reading.
One thing I would add, for context, is that 3 points for a win came in 1981. Prior to that there was a bit less of a stink over a draw, as it was only one dropped point and not two.
Anyway, the win stats for Slot make for solid reading. Qualifying for the CL knockout stage, quite comfortably in the end, is also a big plus point.
But it’s the Prem form, innit? That’s what is getting him into jeopardy. At that point the decision makers will have to assess how much of it is down to Slot, and how much of it is down to various other factors beyond him.
And of course, we are all watching to see if there will be sufficient improvement to finish in the CL spots, while hopefully playing some decent football that gives us hope for a positive future.
While these things remain unresolved, we take what we can, and 6-0 and progress in the CL is a job well done.
Thing is these performances also look chalk and cheese.
Yea you can say the PL is miles ahead but some of these teams really aren’t miles below Leeds, Burnley and the like. Qarabag perhaps but not a Marseille.
I believe if there was a way to run some kind of hundred team premier league with all the best teams from England, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, there wouldn’t be a premier League team below thirtieth place. It’s that strong
I mean what even is a Midtiylland? Imagine telling Mateta he has to boot up to play against that? He’d be like “no Im fucking not, boss. take the kids.”
Sorry but I agree with a fair bit about Slot recently but thats bollocks.
Forest are 17th for example
There are 11 teams currently better than Forest in the Europa League, Palace finished 10th, they are currently 15th.
The top 12 in the PL are quite strong but even then you could pick teams out of that 12 who would struggle. Its a misnomer that Man Utd and Spurs were 17th and 16th and yet reached the Europa League final, both had given up in the league and in Man Utd’s case were incredibly lucky to finish where they did.
Don’t tell me the reason Liverpool could beat Inter, both Madrids and yet draw to Leeds and Burnley and lose to Bournemouth is because those teams are better than those listed.
Arsenal, Man City, Villa, Man Utd (currently), Chelsea and Liverpool are strong teams as are Newcastle but then after that a lot of those teams in that 12 after are probably at the level of the 4-6
If the PL is so strong why are we shitting the bed about any of the 4 we can get in the CL? Why were people bigging up Qarabag? Why did Napoli take Chelsea all the way last night and why are Forest and Palace mid table in their European adventures.
You actually come across in the posts where you go out on a limb to be serious and honest, like a really nice guy.
But no one appreciates you when you are trolling.
Just be yourself, man. Your ok. But this lying-version of you isn’t ok.
I want Arne replaced in good time before the end of the season unless there is a miracle turnaround. So do you and everyone knows it. In the beginning I thought this amusing since you were kind of on point with your irony. But no longer, man. There is a fine line between being amusing and just fucking tedious and you have now crossed it.
You are not a good roleplayer. Cynicaloldgit was far superior in playing an act and did it on all parameters. But you are not him (and many also didnt like his act despite me loving it) Just be yourself and own your opinions.
Respectfully, that makes no sense to me. The Premier League’s advantage is not naturally better English players, but money from TV.
If you then join a league where other teams get that exact same TV money as in your example, England would no longer have the dirty advantage it has today and (imo quite obviously) only a select few English teams would be top.
Then again, I certainly hope we will never see such a Super League. At the same time, I would like there to be less money in English football since it is so incredibly inflated to a silly degree, but that is just a dream of course.
